"Enjoyed our time there"
Lived in the Alice for 8 years and overall enjoyed the experience. Bought a property in the Golf Course area of Desert Springs after 3 years of renting and that area was fantastic i.e. great for families, quiet, great park, close to beautiful golf course but very expensive to rent or buy in Desert Springs area. Would avoid areas like The Gap. Certain parts of Gillen, new East Side, Larapinta and some others can be challenging as there are often break ins (and not only at night times). Facilities in the town are fantastic with great parks and ovals, sporting facilities and numerous sporting clubs, associations. Streets are generally clean but does have its fair issues with many drunk Aboriginal people on streets, shopping centres and on the Council lawns, etc. Sent our kids to Ross Park primary (a public school) and it was the best. Very well organised school with great teachers. Alice is a multicultural place with most people being very friendly and accepting. Make sure cars and houses are always locked. Plenty of work opportunities if you take the time to look and are serious about getting a job. Met the family needs in terms of grocery shopping and takeaway meals (not often) some good family pubs like Gillen Club, Club Eastside, etc. Flights to and from Alice for a family are very expensive as such you are not able to do too many family holidays. Drive to Darwin/Adelaide can be up to 14 hours.

"Lots of jobs but too hot & crime"
I believe wherever you want to live in Australia Alice springs is the place which can get you started, NT has more job opportunities than anywhere in Australia & pay rate is better than most parts of Australia but because its too remote & too hot & too expensive & bit of crime issue so people only stay here for few years, save some money & get some work experience & then move on, living here forever means that you won't have financial problems in your life at all as there is plenty of work plus pay rate is good here but you will have to cope with extreme heat for over six months, night temperature in summer usually stays around 36 to 38 degrees thats night temperature so you can imagine what happens during the day briefly PLUS POINTS are 1. Lots of jobs 2. Good pay rate 3. No traffic 4. Easy lifestyle 5. Five minutes drive to any where in the town. DRAWBACKS are 1. Way too hot in summer everyday is over 40 degree for six months 2. Way too remote flying is probably the only option as driving takes atleast two days plus cost of food & staying overnight on roadhouses is way too much & flying out of Alice Springs is way too expensive, return ticket from Alice to Sydney or Melbourne is more expensive than return tickets to Singapore or Delhi from Sydney/Melbourne 3. Crime here is an issue so it's definitely not good for families with kids 4. Cost of living is very high.
Briefly its ok to stay here & save money & move on, most of the people do exactly this, no one will like to live here forever in such extreme heat & in a very remote location where food & everything else gets very expensive due to transportation, most people complain about cost of flying from in & out of alice, cost of living, cost of food, extreme heat, remoteness & crime here.

"Alice is what you make of it !"
It's a great place to live for people who don't like the busy lifestyle of big cities. There's surprisingly lots of things to do to keep you busy, from 4WD-ing to arts and culture.
If you think Alice is a small town in the middle of nowhere..think again! It's a busy enclave of people from all walks of life who bring their particular brand of life to town and make it a better place to live by involving themselves in the life of town! Alice is certainly what you make of it, but get involved in it and you'll be pleasantly surprised!
