"Hot, expensive, isolated and lots of flies and mosquitoes"

I live in Boort for 3 years because of husband's work, had to go to Bendigo to have my baby as hospital catering more for aged care. Very friendly people. 1 and a half hours drive from Bendigo. If you aren't into sport there is not much else to do. Kerang is half an hour drive with better shopping and facilities.
Pros
  • Lake if it has water
  • Little crime/safe
  • Good aged care
Cons
  • Businesses selling up...
  • Plenty of flies, mosquitoes & snakes

"Great country town"

Great atmosphere, was there on the great Vic Bike Ride in December and fantastic, weather was a little on the chilly side but, you could see the locals had put on a great show. Very welcoming, happy to help and there was never a issue or problem. Heard alot about the schools (P12), no locks on lockers WOW!!!!!, don't hear of that, must be a great school, building a new school too and also heard they are talking about up-grading the local hospital, there is also a doctor/s dentist as well and of course the usual businesses. Lake full of water, raedy for skiing, sailing, etc and safe. Recommend it to anyone.
Pros
  • NO crime
  • Lakes
  • people, both locals and tourists

"Small town declining"

Scenic lake with good birdlife - depends on rainfall and local politics for water. Farming district sheep/grain also very very dependent on water allocations for irrigation. Can be very adversely affected by low water allocations. Business district very small and declining. Next closest larger town with access to trains to Melbourne is Kerang. 1 hour north of Bendigo. Flat treeless plains, very hot in summer. Sporting groups can be very unwelcoming and political, education, does not cater for extension or extra learning - bullying problem for newcomers and high achievers from kids and some staff. Very unhelpful. Some nice residents but can be very political at times.
Pros
  • Lake if it has water
  • Little crime/safe
  • Good aged care
Cons
  • Growth/Future
  • Business/Trades
  • Friendliness/Location

Jakehavaianas Don't think they know what they are talking about, maybe they had a bad experience with someone. Never known of any bullying, extra learning is catered for by small classes and video conference with other schools and Boort has an excellent reputation with many Universities. Businesses are very stable and water, there is plenty of water, lake is full, many locals and tourists there utilise the lake for water activities (skiing, etc). Flat tree-less plain? Boort is on a hill with plains to the east and undulating small hills to the west and more "hilly" country to the south, complete with trees.
