Best suburbs for people who are moving alone to the city.

Brisbane is a great city for wanting to live a scaled down city compared to what Melbourne and Sydney offer. Many suburbs I looked at offer what any single person may want when they move to a new place. From having access to all the amazing qualities that Brisbane itself has to offer. Below are some of the suburbs I viewed into when I was searching for a place.

Fortitude Valley
Fortitude Valley was once known for being a hang out for the less desirable types of Brisbane. But now it is full of independent shops, cafes, pub and a rather big nightlife scene as well. Geared more for young people looking to be somewhere ‘edgy’ I thought this place would be an ideal spot to get into for the social aspect, Fortitude Valley is the place to be. warehouses have been turned into apartments or torn down to become apartments. it is also home to Chinatown and has great public transport routes straight into the CBD.

New Farm
New Farm is known for its cafes, bars and parks. two thirds of the population of New Farm have not got kids. So as a single moving to the area, the chances to meet like minded people are high. It is on the ferry route and has a great weekend market every two Saturdays. Popular with many different kinds of people and the wide variety of architecture throughout the suburb. It was a great place to walk around and check out.

West End
I really like Fitzroy in Melbourne and heard a lot about Newtown in Sydney, So when I found out about West End, I had to go check it out. Home to the artsy, alternative and socially aware types. West End offers everyone from students to to the wealthy professionals a place to call home. Very close to the center but in a world of its own, this suburb gives single people plenty of options once they move here, a great weekend market, fantastic places to eat and drink and several live music venues to get you out and about.

You should check out Southbank if you are looking for somewhere to live, I found it had everything I needed. Many places to go out, great views over the river and just on the doorstep of the CBD!

A friend of mine who's a young professional moved to New Farm in Brisbane and loves the lifestyle there. It has a great village like atmosphere and loads of good bars, cafes, art galleries, gyms, cinemas and a fortnightly farmer's market.

I also hear good things about Bowen Hills (for cheap rent), Newstead, Fortitude Valley aka 'The Valley' and Bulimba.
