"no crime, no hoons, no traffic jams, just beautiful"

We moved to Canungra from the Gold Coast 18 months ago and It was the best decision we ever made. We love the peace and quiet and the clean air. Plans for this town include a new shopping centre and better water supply, although we have good rainfall anyway. Overall a "nice place to live" or "visit" that's not far from Gold Coast, Brisbane.

"The Famous O'Reilly's"

The place of O'Reilly is named after the dynasty of people who have settled and stayed in this area for over 100 years. The most famous and well known member saved several members of a plane crash that landed in dense rainforest, by trekking in and finding them himself. Today the O'Reilly's Hotel and Retreat is just as famous and thousands flock there every year to experience the beauty and serenity of the area in the Lamington national park region of S.E QLD. There are cafes/pit stops and retail opportunities for day trippers and a chance to hand feed thousands of rainbow lorikeets. There are some real estate sections to buy up there, but considering that it's fairly isolated and there are no real grocery store type shops, it wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea.

"Canungra - Gateway to Lamington National Park"

Canungra is a short drive west of the Gold Coast in the hinterland. The town has a long history associated with the timber industry. Today, the town offers some great attractions such as winery where you can sample good wines before making your selection, some good shops for you every need and of course a hotel for thirsty locals and travellers. Close to the Canungra the Australian Army has a training centre which was used in the filming of Odd Angry Shot. Land prices in the area have increased and developers are moving in to build town houses in the area. Canungra has a swimming pool for the hot summer months, a beautiful golf where you can get up close and personal with some native animals and sometimes you can spot a platypus in the creek. Canungra is the gateway to Lamington National Park.

"A nice place to visit"

Canungra is your typical country town, quiet, peaceful and full of country folk. (Read into that as you wish) With an army base and accompanying barracks located in the actual township, it's population is highly transient, with posting cycles every two to three years. This can mean making friends in town is difficult, as they are likely to leave. There is a lovely little primary school, but for high school options kids have to either travel up to Tamborine Mt. or Beaudesert and these are fairly big drives. The Canungra pub is a good place to have a counter meal and the Albert Valley Vineyard offers a nice drop of plonk if you are so inclined. Overall, a nice place to visit.
