"I love Currajong"

I've lived here for 4 years in the same house and not once have had any problems with theft or crimes or nothing (touch wood)
It's a great little suburb with lots of families amounst it. Sure you get your occasional hoon or drunken person walking down the street but other then that I am always shocked when there is noise down my street it just peace full and quiet.
Mosquitoes are very bad in wet season though
Pros
  • Peaceful
  • Safe & quiet
  • Cute local food shops
Cons
  • Mosquitoes
  • Some drunken indigenous around townsville

"I love Currajong - close to everything!"

I have lived in Currajong for seven years now and thoroughly enjoy the area. The suburb has everything we need - a great set of shops, a lovely park, wide streets and lots of greenery. We have wonderful friendly, quiet neighbours. It is easy walking distance to Anderson Park Botanical Gardens, Pimlico High School, Pimlico Tafe Campus, Marian School and Currajong Primary. Within a five minute drive there is Castletown, Domain and Stockland Shopping Centres and it's only a ten minute drive in to the CBD. I love the 1930's/40's Queenslanders here and also the big blocks. I won't be moving from Currajong any time soon!

"A Family Friendly suburb"

I have lived in Currajong for 3 years now and we love it here. In fact, last year we had another baby and thought we didn't have enough space for our growing family in the house. Instead of moving, we love the place so much we are extending our property. It is so central to everything, close to town, a small drive out to Kirwan (where I work), close to the mater hospital, your choice of Castletown or the local shops on Hammet street for just about anything - butcher, fruit & veg, newsagency, convenience store, bakery around the corner. Beautiful parks and playgrounds and close to cricket fields. There is so much to love about the area. Yes, lots of older folk around who are respectful to neighbours as well as young families coming in. I love living here and would recommend it to anyone.

"Literally 5 min to EVERYTHING"

I have lived in Currajong for years and I have found it is one of the most conveniently placed suburbs in Townsville. It is so close to Stockland, Castletown and the City. Plenty of facilities like hospitals, parks and bus routes. The average block in Currajong is large and my neighbours are extremely friendly and quiet. I give it 5 thumbs up!!!

"What is not to love about Currajong??"

This area is absolutely fabulous. Close to shopping centres, hospital/medical facilities, neighbours are mostly older, so they are very friendly and the bus coverage is outstanding. There are so many parks nearby not to mention, primary and secondary schools as well as TAFE. Perfect for quiet couples, families and retirees.

"Avoid Palmerston near Hugh St"

This area of Palmerston Street has many drawbacks it is noisy with the nearby ambulance station providing regular disturbance. Traffic is heavy and drainage is extremely poor leading to flooding of many homes in the area during the wet season. Crime is relatively high making it difficult to utilise the Queenslander design in many homes as you cannnot leave the casement windows open without inviting a flash and grab theft. This is exacerbated by local police who now choose to blame you for a theft if you leave the window open rather than the culprit. Bats, rats and termites are other issues you need to consider even if renting.

tiger07
tiger07 I was really disappointed to read your review. I think Currajong is such a wonderful area. I have never had an issue with crime, bats or rats as you have suggested. Perhaps you are writing this as you feel very disgruntled with the police over a matter. I am not sure how you can give a 2 star rating to medical facilities when you have 2 hospitals and endless specialists so close. I also find your 2 star rating of Neighbourly Spirit very sad as I have a street worth of friendly neighbours that would do anything for you. Perhaps you should come and visit down my end of Currajong.

Raechris
Raechris I agree with tiger07. It does sound like you feel disgruntled with the local police because you failed to secure your property. I have lived in many different places around Townsville and Brisbane and have always secured my property, and as such, have had minimal problems with theft. It is standard practice these days to secure your property. I believe it is extremely niave to think that you can leave your home wide open and believe that you are not inviting thieves. My house has casments however when we moved in we invested in crimsafe screens that let the air and light in and keep insects, pests and criminals out. A good investment. As for bats, rats and termites, well I am sorry but they are all over Townsville. Termites will always find dead wood, so get your property checked regularly or buy a cement block home. Rats will breed where they can find refuge, so don't make your home or property friendly for rats - no problems in our area. Bats - come on? we have a colony here in Currajong? You are looking for something to whinge about.
Palmerston St is a main road, as are many throughout Townsville. I don't choose to live on a main road because I don't like traffic. The same could be said for any road in town. I also live near the ambulance station and barely hear them - I guess it's just your frame of reference. I also like the fact that if I do need help, they're not far away!
Drainage has been addressed in the last year and is much better, even in the biggest of rains, the water drains very quickly now. Newsflash, Townsville is a giant floodplain.
There are so many pluses that other residents have spoken of, don't worry about one person who just wants to have a rant because they don't know better.
