Is Frankston a good place to live?

I'm migrating from Victoria and will need short term rental.

Some areas are nice (close to the beach), but other areas like Frankston North and the Pines are not the best. So choose wisely.

Frankston is not a good area to live, i used to live there and i save and saved untill i could afford to leave. Frankston is full of criminals, the houses are old and the streets are dirty. you can buy a house in frankston for 200 and somthing thousand thats how bad it is. frankston is like a westie area full of government housing and welfare dependant people who have drug and alcohol problems. please keep your family safe and stay away

Frankston aka Frankganistan....Frankston South is nice thou Mornington up the road is very nice. Lots of new suburbs out that way so good for roofing and yes lots of young offenders, probably a good move. Oh and the coast further up from there is really nice for a getaway.

Don't take any notice of ThemiG's misleading exaggerations. Obviously does not know the suburb very well. And those immature comments are very insulting to people who live there.
Full of criminals? What rubbish
The houses are old? No, the housing is varied from californian bungalows, through to modern.
The streets are not 'dirty', and homes in the $200,000 range are bottom end but rare.
Like any suburb, Frankston has good and bad areas, but overall it is a great place to live and invest.

I live pretty close to the frankston CBD and i haven't had any issues, its just an average beachside town, of course you get some bogans but what town doesn't?

Frankston has 'some' dodgy bits, but it also has some amazing areas. I've lived in Melbourne my whole life, and Frankston has come a long way in the past 10 years. You also have to remember that it's a suburb on the bay, so Frankston is only going to continue to improve over the next 10-20 years well above most other suburbs.

You just talk good about franston because you dont want to lose money
Anyone who wants the truth should listen to me and not you.
Doesnt matter how good or bad your house is everyone talks good about there house! i never met a person that said i live in a rubbish area or my house is rubbish they all say its good like you do even if its not.
People should listen to me because i lived there and expierienced the bad area and then i move away, not you who just says its good because you dont want to lose money!!!!

Re ThemiG's amusing outburst....

Quote "and you are wrong about the prices in the 200k range there are HEAPS"
Those two examples are almost $300K! There are even more in the more in the $300k+ range. And some are close to $1millon. Just because prices are lower doesn't mean the area is bad. It's further from the city, like many outer suburbs. Just because Pascoe Vale is cheaper than Toorak, does that mean it's bad?

Quote "You just talk good about franston because you dont want to lose money"
(It's actually called Frankston. At least get the spelling right. And what gives you the idea I will lose money? I don't own property there.)

Quote: "Anyone who wants the truth should listen to me and not you."
(How mature of you. I'd suggest anyone who wants the truth might like to visit the suburb for themselves, or make their own mind up from the more intelligent reviews on this site.)

Quote: "Doesnt matter how good or bad your house is everyone talks good about there house"
(Correct spelling is "their" house. And if you read back through other posts, you'll see that most reviews of Frankston are quite balanced, mentioning the bad points as well as the good.)

Quote: "People should listen to me because i lived there"
(So do a lot of other people posting on Frankston. And they are able to post informative comments without being nasty and misleading.)

Perhaps it is a good thing for Frankston that you no longer live there!

Dearest Crossfire,

I will begin with extreme caution considering your very name suggests you enjoy and perpetrate arguments and or war.

Firstly please excuse my father’s inapt hold on the English language he has made a success of his life in Australia through hard work and not by mastering the English language, unlike myself he prefers to employ his native Hellenic tongue to which he was educated in and to which the world owes Philosophy , the invention of mathematics, and the creation of democracy (That this country now enjoys) so please do not conclude from his poor grasp on the language that you and I speak that the man is some kind of intellectual buffoon...I assure you he isn’t.

I might be a tiny bit better candidate to bring forth his point of view (he has asked me to do that for him) and I hope I am able to accurately convey to you, opinions that he is passionate about.

Quote "and you are wrong about the prices in the 200k range there are HEAPS"

The two examples my father provided were of property’s for sale now and your comments that “ They are “NEARLY” in the $300k range are insignificant.
The fact is they “Are” in the 200k range in fact any price with a 2 at the front can be deemed in the 200k range, it is preposterous that I need explain that to you
And after looking in the “Sold” section of real estate. Com’s website I realised he was right, it seems a lot of property’s advertised in the $300k range in Frankston have been negotiated down into the $200k range
I am not about to attempt to explain the laws of negotiation to you but I’m sure your mind allows you to understand that a home’s “advertised” price is always higher than its eventual “selling price” so you can expect that the 2 examples he provided you will have a “selling price” of less than that quoted.
I would encourage people interested in fact based information to search the sold section themselves and not the For sale section.

If you were “nearly” polite and likable crossfire you wouldn’t be such an antagonist.

I believe the purpose of this site is to provide the lay person with a medium in which to express his or her opinions based on their “Own personal experience”
Like it or not crossfire you must accept that my father’s experience when it comes to living in Frankston is not positive you must accept that he has the right to express this opinion and you must accept that in his case every point he makes is factual, aside from you believing that it is a “good thing for Frankston that you no longer live there! if you do not enjoy this beautiful democracy that his people gifted you with then maybe it would be a good thing that you no longer live here yourself and join your fellow supporters in north Korea.

My father while living in Frankston was robbed twice, attacked and continued to live in great fear until he finally sold and took up residence in another suburb.
As a loving son I witnessed firsthand the damaging effect that living in Frankston had on his health, the constant fear of being robbed and attacked yet again would weigh on his mind every day and he had VERY rowdy neighbours (Drug addicts).

Crossfire, your straw man arguments seem to be effective on the residents of Frankston and while i see that is giving you great satisfaction I’m afraid you will need to go back to school if you are to converse normally with people outside of Frankston.

i bought in Frankston North back in May 2007 for $180k on a 817sqmt block after renting up in Toorak. Its now worth $320K.
It isn't the best area, sure, but in my 4 years i ahve never had any problems. Sure you see scummy people drinking in the middle of the day but they dont cause any trouble, its an ugly visual if anything. I was reluctant into bying, of course but im seeing the potential of this area and how people are starting to move out and fixing up their houses.

Just wait and see, it'll be like frankston south which was also, once upon a time, a s*it hole.

You buy where you can afford and for a $250 mortgage, you cant go wrong, can you?
Dont judge a book by its cover, they say and Frankston North certainly is the best place to buy if you wanna see your money grow.

Themig is a baffoon. Haha. Yes Frabkston is a shab hole. Don't buy here and stay away so I can continue to pick up property's cheap and build my portfolio. On property under 300k close proximity to town and a beautiful beach. Frankston is truly unique wonderful affordable area south East Melbourne 42km from cbd. Everything is at your door step and one day the hand full of dregs that live here will no longer and will move into themigs rusty shack in his backyard in oakleigh. It's amusing to see people passionate about an area. I frankly see the values it obtains and dollars il credit in years to come living here. There are too many bonuses to mention. So many areas where sham holes and have reincarnated to developed city's and Frankston like cronella, maroubra and south Sydney burbs will grow to gold in the near future. Just you wait and see! Plus why wouldn't you want to own 4 properties purchased at 250k receiving $1,500 p/m in rent growing .9% per annum!!!!! Mmmmmm smells like money!!!! Love Frankston always will! It's gold land!

Beautiful beach
Shopping centres and services (hospitals)
Good sport facilities and parks (Parc and Ballam park
The thing is... The property market is so hot right now that most of the bogans will be gone soon.

You got to be kidding or totally stupid if you think Frankston is a good area. Full of government housing, swamped with poverty, crime and drugs. It's got a bad reputation for a long time because it bloody deserves it. Think about it's location, close to the bay, great beaches nearby, why the heck are property prices so low in comparison? Because anyone who values safety and good neighbours simply don't live here.
