"Great neighbourhood with best public transport"

"Brilliant place for families and professionals"

We lived in Camberwell for a few years and loved it. It's a brilliant suburb which has nearly everything you need: Decent shopping strip, indoor fresh food market, great restaurants, good schools, lot of parks, excellent library, train station and tram links. The only thing I'd say it's missing is a decent wine bar or gastro pub.

Another plus is it's really close to CBD.

A massive issue is it's very expensive to buy.

"Spacious parks, and nice restaurants, very multicultural & excellent public transport."

Born & and spent my youth here, nearly every moment was beautiful, with the exception of one break in, its overall a pretty safe area. Spacious parks, and nice restaurants, very multicultural & excellent public transport.
Favors families with 2 incomes, a single person would struggle to get real estate in this suburb unless they're rolling in the big bucks.

"Fairmount Rd Hawthorn East"

Although radically changed over the last thirty years probably for the worse. Was renowned for it's multitude of original 1920's Red brick Californian bungalows of 1920-22. Regretably a number demolished to make way for some pretentious 2 storey mansions which are too large for the street. Some have had another storey added very well others not. Garden makeovers have been both poor and good with unsympathetic fencing.
However the street was cut through in 1921 on the Stonyhurst Estate. Originally a 2 storey mansion stood on the current site of 5 and 5A demolished in 1940. opposite stands Fairmount House originally Auburn Villa
Owned in my day by the Bills Thompson.'s.The street therefore has much historicity the huge plane trees dating from 1921 and must be retained at all cost. The street overall is a very desirable one.Miami st regretablly also is not faring too well under a rebuilding programme. Wiseman's "Athol" of 1873 still stands at number 6 but has been desiccated
By unauthentic work.It was originally an early colonial residence built for William Cleverdon onetime Mayor of Hawthorn. Concern should be given as to what may become of this once charming street if development is to proceed unchecked.there seems to have been little height control over buildings. "Perfect for families of any age"

Excellent kindergartens, schools and a fabulous Swinburne Uni campus.
Shopping at either Camberwell or Hawthorn offers great variety. With plenty of cafes and restaurants, the Rivoli, Sunday Market, parks and bookshops aplenty, there is always somewhere to go and something to do.
Close to trains, trams, the freeway - East Hawthorn has certainly been great for our family over the years.

"Relaxed living without heading too far out."

Hawthorn East is close to the city and has a lovely green feel to it. Tree lined streets and character homes makes this a great place to be.
There are some good parks close by to walk the dog or take the kids out to run free for a bit.
The area is well serviced by supermarkets and other shops so you shouldn't have to go far to get what you need. However some of the shops aer expensive so it may be better to look further afield for shops.
Public transport services the area pretty well with a number of trams in the area. As a result if you are in streets close to the tram it can get busy with parking as it makes a convenient spot for others around to park to catch the trams into the CBD.
A good area for families and retirees.
