"Good old Hillman"

I grew up in Hillman, across from a park in a tucked away street. My family moved from the area, but 15years later I'm back. I can say with confidence that the street where I grew up hasn't changed, nor has the many parks. I go walking with my dog and baby every morning through the well paved parks, the parks are well kept and there are doggy bins in most of them. Of course you always get your bad eggs in any area. Calume st has gone down hill a bit, but I feel walking around the other streets quite safe. There are a few locals who go round cleaning up rubbish and graffiti in the parks, and on our daily walks we always get a good morning from other walkers, so the residents are pretty friendly. It is worth checking out.
Pros
  • Close to train station/bus to train station
  • Lots of parks
  • Good school
  • location
Cons
  • Do get hoons going down Unnaro st sometimes

"Best kept secret in Rockingham"

it's the people who live here! I can't put a price on my neighbours, discreet but always friendly, with a wave or to lend a hand. Great hidden footpaths throughout the whole suburb and kids who get to play out on the street! or in one of the many reserves or parks. Hillman Primary is a great school (I went there and so do my kids!) with easy access to the local high schools (4 or 5 them?). Good bus service and I live walking distance to the train and can be in the city for work within 30 minutes of leaving home, no traffic! The beautiful rockingham foreshore is only a few minutes drive away, as are shops, gym, Murdoch Uni, TAFE and beautiful bushland. When people ask me where I live, they claim they have never heard of Hillman. Best kept secret in Rockingham.
Pros
  • peaceful, wide leafy green streets where kids can play
  • location
Cons
  • It is cheap? How is this a con???
  • Bogans live here, the occasional burnout/speeding cars

hillman3
hillman3 yes its is the best kept secret been here four years never had a crime problem nice quiet nights location is perfect and is great for young families with lots of culdesacs and a fantastic school the man who planned hillman was very family oriented . one of a kind suburb you will never see this again. the down side is most houses are small by newer standards but lend themself well to some renovation and are cost effective to heat and cool dizzyme is 100% correct in her review i think when the developers finally cotton on which i hope they never do. the prices will climb a bit more.
