"Homebush is full of Koreans, Vietnamese and Chinese."

Homebush is seen second to Strathfield which is a type of hot spot on this side of the line. The whole area from Burwood onwards is basically a form of Asian zone. It's not a bad place to live, but it's not a good place to live. Id say it's fairly safe which will appeal to most people, it's also close to transport and there are express lines to the city.

There is nothing else really relevant about this place, it's crowded and busy, allot of people here, allot of big high rise residential complexes. it's not overly clean, but it's not dirty, there are some scumbags who come from Redfern and start trouble but it's fairly rare.

If I had money to live elsewhere, I would, but for a very average place to live, it's... OK.

This place is fairly far from the city, but these days Sydney has really spread out. For Sydney in today's 2016 environment it's okay. For Sydney back in 2006, it was considered very far.
Pros
  • Allot of Asians, if that's your thing
  • Express trains to the city
  • Somewhat safe
Cons
  • Far from the city
  • Run down
  • Overcrowded

"Most affordable suburb within 13km of Sydney CBD"

I have been living (rent) with my partner on Courallie Ave for three years. We enjoy our lives there, it's quiet, convenient and friendly. We never had an issue with safety nor with our neighbors.
Flemington got the best Vietnam beef noodle soup shop in Sydney, and lots of other delicious restaurant. The market is close enough to walk, every week you can buy fresh vegi, meats & seafood at the cheapest price without going to Cosco!!!
Homebush west is located in the middle of everywhere you wish. It takes 3 mins train to Strathfield, 13km to Sydney, 10km to Parramatta. It also only takes 5 mins driving to Olympic park, rhodes IKEA & homebush DFO!
Homebush west also has many reputable schools around, e.g. Homebush West Primary School, Homebush Boys High School, Strathfield Girls.
There still many other aspects I didn't mention of course, but we love to live here and we probably will consider to buy our first property around the area.
Highly recommend to families with kids and retirement couple cause this suburb has everything you want and more!!!

"Nice place to live"

Funny suburb to live in but nice. Has two real extremes with some super wealthy people in the area (especially because of the fairly prestigeous shools, which can be annoying) and also regular people. One of the nice parts of the area to live in, although can depend which part you are in.

"Everything closeby"

Homebush West is an innerwest suburb which is about 5 minutes drive to Strathfield and 13KM to CBD. Let's have a look what we have in or around the suburb.

Schools:
Active child care: which is on Hornsy road.
Homebush Public
Homebush Boy High
Strathfield Girls

Shopping:
Planty of Asian Gorceries near Station
Peddy's Market
Costco (10 minutes drive)
Burwood Westfield (5 minutes drive)
Ikea (10 minutes)
DFO (5 minutes)

Food:
BBQ shops and Asian restraunants in Homebush west

In all this is somewhere that you can simply reach any neccesities and it is highly recommended for investment as for its high rent return.

"Just love Homebush West"

Homebush West is a gorgeous Town, people are polite and friendly but of course you only get what you give, so I suppose there are always those with attitude; those that are never happy unless they complain about something. If you live here you soon discover the great community feeling and the wonderful activities that you can involve yourself in.

"Safe Place to Live and Excellent Place for Fruit and Vegie"

According to my 18+ living experience in Homebush West, it is such a Safe Place to Live and Excellent Place for Fruit and Vegie. I lived in a ground floor unit with my wife for more than 18 years already and we are quite happy with the security of the region. Plus, there are so many Indian and Asian grocery shops around so you do not need to drive to buy staff. The Paddy's market is quite famous in Sydney and we always go there shopping for fruit and vegie. Although we are now living in Paddington we missed the live over there.

In all it is a region that developed quite good in the past 6 years, and the property price there is not expensive at all so it will be a fabulous place for any first home buyers.

"One of the best in price"

I am more looking at the property price side for this area, so far the average medium unit price are around 350K+ which is quite affordable for most families, much cheaper compare to Homebush which will be one station before and shopping is quite convenient there as well. Most important to me there is a golf club in this region so I am happy to live there.

"good place to start family"

Many of my friends have purchased their first home in Homebush West area it is quite a good place for living, as mentioned by others there are quite a few shops nearby the neighborhood, and the major population are from Asia so quite a safe place to raise child.
The only issue I can think will be the environment, it is not so clean and tidy on the street, but overall a nice place to recommend.

"Affordable Alternative to Rhodes Apartments"

Homebush west is an affordable alternative to Rhodes. It enjoys the convenience of Ikea, Olympic park, DFO and Flemington shops without the high price of accomodation in Rhodes. The newer apartments in Homebush West has the modern facilities but much more affordable than surrounding apartments in the Wentworth and Rhodes area (which is less than 10 mins by car).

The childcare (Active Kids) and pre-school (Strathfield Sessional) are good and highly recommended. Train lines are also well connected.

"Its a suburb you can start your independent life but move out"

ignored by council, local MP is a champion of pokitical correctness but hasn't done any development of the local area.

Great primary school, nearby high schools for girls and boys. Two golf courses nearby, three hospitals close by. Close to strathfield for shopping etc.

Well connected to Sydney city by train, good train frequency.

"Its a mess"

Lots of litter blowing around the street, most of it with Chinese and Hindi writing on it, combined with Strathfield council's lack of interest in this non-mansion area, ensures this suburb remains dirty, and well on its way to becoming a ghetto.

"Great place for groceries, fresh produce and Paddy's Market"

Homebush West is a good mix of older style residential units, family houses and modern styled units. It is serviced by Flemington station. The neighbouring suburbs include Strathfield and Homebush. Schools located around this area include Strathfield girls' high and Homebush boys' high.

I visit Homebush West at least twice a month for my groceries. This suburb offers a large variety of Asian produce, groceries, fresh meat and fish without the need to travel to Chinatown in the city. Prices here are very reasonable. Additionally, it is located right across Paddy's market and Sydney Flowers Market. Hence, it can get really busy on the weekends. Most people usually visit one of the many cafes and resturants for lunch after they have completed their shopping. Getting there by car will be the most convenient option. However, this does contribute to parking and congestion problems around the area as many bring their cars along with them when they do their weekly shopping.

I would recommend living there if you can afford it. Although it is not as snazzy a postcode as its Strathfield counterpart, real estate prices around that area is constantly on the rise due to its relative proximity to Strathfield and the city.
