Horse ownership and riding in Kununarra - pros and cons?

We are considering moving to Kununarra for a work opportunity but we are used to living in a rural environment with our horses. Are there many horse riding trails, clubs, arenas etc in the area? Where do most people with horses live? Is agistment available, is feed e.g hay expensive and are there farriers and horse dentists in the area? Any other pros and cons would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help :)

There are quite a lot of horses in Kununurra, I myself own two! There are plenty of areas to ride here, there is not currently a Trail Riding Club but there are groups of "horse" people who arrange rides etc. You can join the Ag Society here, they have agistment right in the middle of town too with a grassed area for setting up riding for all disciplines. It is possible to rent property with acreage, however it is rare. There are people who will allow horses to agist on their properties also. Feed is the same cost as anywhere else and is provided by Shelf Supply, our local produce store. Hay is not so easy to come across however it is not impossible. Shelf Supply stock small bales and we have a larger supplier who looks after the stations etc in the area, I get round bales from him. There are two Farriers and a very, very good livestock vet who does teeth. There is not really much here in the way of clinics, clubs etc however we have a very enthusiastic group of people who are working very hard on making things happen in this town for the horse enthusiasts! There is an event on this weekend and we also have the annual Agricultural Show which has a lot of horse related events. We also have people travel with their horses to Katherine and Darwin to join in on their horse events etc. The community here in Kununurra is fantastic, there will be plenty of people who will be more than happy to help you out.
