"A Friendly Welcome"

Locals, travellers, and visitors to Bindoon are assured of a friendly Christian welcome at the Bindoon Community Church that meets at the SDA hall next to the op shop, on the first and third Sundays at 9.30.

This is a great way to get to know the people and the area and you can be assured of a morning tea with the locals and good fellowship.

Church leaders Wayne and Pat Beard present a traditional hands on service, communion and often some lively speakers. BCC was founded in 1998 by four local families. They pioneered the Christmas Carols, Alpha courses and the original ChristmasLlunch for local residents.

“Walking the talk” is a favourite saying here, and from what we hear that’s a fair picture of the work of this little church. If you want an insight into the very heart of this community find time to drop in. You will be made as welcome as we were.

"Be who you want to be, live how you want to live."

If you want a quiet life that is not too far from the resources of the city this is the place to be.
You can have a home hidden in the hills or bush, or you can have a home on the main street. Where ever you choose in Bindoon environs you will be 'in the country' and i like it that way. The basketball and netball seasons are huge for all ages and a great social venue. Lawn Bowls is hugely popular for the older folks who invite younger people in for corporate nights or scroungers. Exercise classes are available for all ages. Volunteering is another avenue for social interaction - becoming an 'ambo' or a 'firey', or one of the many vollies who support this community of people. Then there are the landcare helpers - we have a river feeding through a huge lakes system which ensures we will not be built out in a hurry, plus we have the best mandarins and oranges of the state grown here. Sure there are a great variety of pies at the bakehouse, and there are good wines and olive oils grown and produced too. We are living in a food bowl that will be protected by people who love the country life, clean air, healthy living. Having a love for the great outdoors is useful, and with that love generally comes a tolerance and understanding of all the critters that have a purpose in the ecology of the environment. The community is welcoming of people who want to be part of a community.
You need to have a next G mobile service but reception is available in most places. Internet is available where ever phone is and every year it gets better. I have adsl.
The primary school is small so children have names and every one knows each other. Secondary schooling has a multitude of options, an agricultural college 10km north of the town, or school bus service to many private schools near midland or govt high schools in gingin or bullsbrook.
Electricity is available to all properties. Reticulated Water is available to some properties, and pretty much everyone has their own water tank to drink rainwater without the chemical impurities applied in the city.
The climate is dry heat when hot, the coast is a fair way, the wind is a breeze most days. Autumn like most places is anybody's guess. Winter time is green country with wood fires in most homes. Spring is an abundance of wildflowers painting a canvas of colors on the landscape. Summer is the gold and olive colors of the Australian landscape.
If you like your home, and being home, this is a great place to live with a community that cares.

"Not as good as its made out to be"

Where does one start. Well the weather will get to you during the summer with those easterlies blowing a gale and the constant over 40 deg heat, and evaporative air-conditioning is absolutely useless.
The countryside is dry and barren so dust is a constant battle.
The blowflies and bush flies will drive you absolutely crazy, and you have to get your house checked every year against termites as they are rampant around these parts.
No public transport so you need a car to get to a major suburb to do your shopping.
There is a local supermarket, but you'll use it for emergencies only as it is expensive and hard to find fresh produce.
Nowhere locally to go out for dinner unless you get take away from the local road house, so you've got a 45min to 1 hr drive to a major suburb.
We have a bakery, but food is average and very expensive.
Town water if you have it is highly calcified and tastes horrible.
Broadband is very limited depending on where you live and adsl is available right in town but elsewhere it is only available via satellite and if you can't afford that then its dialup.
There is a medical centre but only 1 GP available and they are closed on a Friday, so any emergencies is the hospital in Midland or Joondalup both a 45 min drive.
Only a primary school in town so high school is via a bus service from town or parents take their kids to the suburbs'
Gas only available in bottles and expensive from local supplier.
Power yes but be prepared for quite a few of power outages during summer.
If you need to use your mobile, well it is very limited and I mean limited, in the area.
Not a very good place for kids as apart from local primary school for kids, there really is nothing for kids or teenagers to do in town except get into mischief.
Before buying and moving into town, you really need to do your homework, as once your here it can take quite a while to sell.

"A beautiful place to visit for the day, weekend or call home"

Chittering is beautiful - picturesque valley views. I never tire of the views as I drive the kids to school. Even mundane tasks like hanging out the washing can be rewarded with beautiful valley views. I love living in the chittering shire and proud to call it home.

"Escape to Bindoon and live the dream - come for the weekend or forever"

A wonderful little country community which is only 1 hour from Perth, offers the best of both worlds; the charm of the rural life with the conveniences at your doorstep.

My husband and I use to come up here and pitch a tent, but we never wanted to leave, 10 years later we live here and our children go to the local primary school.

I love the variety of people from all walks of live - it is a wonderful place for children to enjoy a beautiful safe and friendly environment, We have everything we need here Supermarket, post office, doctors, sporting facilities but the best part is Perth is only 1 hour away.

Of course we couldn't review Bindoon without mentioning the jewel, the new award winning Bindoon Bakehouse, fresh pumpkin bread and jubilee twist are my favorites. My son is hooked on the spinach and ricotta roll.

Bindoon is also famous for its topography with gently undulating hills, and rich loamy soil. So if you like gardening you can build your own garden paradise - or at least a productive vegetable garden.

"Lbw"

Have just finished building in Chittering Springs Estate - so WONDERFUL & QUIET & SAFE - the kids can play all day and large shed for my Husband and the house is fantastic, with views over the hills & trees. You would never find a better place to bring up the family & have your pets & some chooks & a vegie garden - the kids just LOVE the freedom and they are not sitting inside ALL day like before watching T.V. - they are outside running around playing - helping get the vegies & eggs for dinner - it's just so much better than the ritzy suburb with no backyard we were in before - people are really friendly and helpful. All I can say is make the break and come & build your dream home and enjoy the fresh air & freedom !!!

shervo
shervo Yes a wonderful place to live or escape to on weekends. Families will love the chance to get out of Perth and perhaps ride a pony or motorbike. So close to Perth now with the northern freeway.
