"Off the main roads it has a country feel to the place"

Has all our daily needs and anything else is not far away. Very friendly community, not at all what I expected. I have noticed a few selling now that the price of our real estate is increasing, but there is nowhere else now I would rather be. I really like the location and the local community. Only downside to MacFields is the large amount of investors buying into the area, instead of owner occupiers.

"Macquarie Fields--Quiet and Nice"

"Happy to be Here"

I have lived here for more than 30 years.
Macquarie Fields is an excellent suburb with facilities galore - schools, skate park, shopping centre, leisure centres, it's own beach, nature reserves, plenty of parks & wide open space.
With easy access to the M5 & M7 arterial roads, Macquarie Fields is now not far away from the major centres.
House prices make Macquarie Fields even more attractive.
I personally love the place & would not live anywhere else in Sydney.

"A much nicer suburb than has been portrayed."

I rather begrudgingly moved from the eastern suburbs to Macquarie Fields eighteen years ago to purchase my first home. At the time I worked in the Sydney CBD so road and rail services were of primary consideration together with affordability. During the ensuing years I have really come to appreciate the assortment of community facilities Macquarie Fields has to offer such as various sporting ovals, aquatic centre, tennis courts, simmo's beach recreational area, quality and varied schooling options, college of Tafe, a Library, community centre, Woolworths, Coles and Aldi supermarkets, Target, Chemist Warehouse several medical centres, optometrists and many other assorted retail outlets.

Also Macquarie Fields is far less expensive to purchase real estate in comparison to the neighbouring suburbs of Glenfield and Ingleburn. Then should the need arise Liverpool and Campbelltown are an easy drive or train ride away. Macquarie Fields also has it's own ambulance, police and fire stations, not that I've needed to utilise any of these facilities myself thankfully :) as my family and I have never experienced any of the negatives portrayed in the media. Our quiet street is a mix of cultures both professional and retired individuals and also couples with young children, all of whom exhibit a friendly and community minded disposition.

After eighteen years residing in the area, I can honestly say we have never experienced crime of any form in our street and I feel safe and comfortable within the suburb. Macquarie Fields is most definitely a much nicer community with a vast majority of decent hardworking residents and certainly not the crime ridden ghetto portrayed by past media stigmatisation and perpetuated by wider ignorance.

"Crazily nice and affordable burbs - the overhang of the riots has made this the best bargain in Sydney"

Having lived (rented) in the Eastern suburbs for 10 years, I came to visit a friend in Macquarie Fields in 2010 thinking - like most northern/eastern suburb renters - that I was taking my life into my own hands. Couldn't have been any further from the truth! Now I can lie in my hammock after getting out of my swimming pool and watch the lorikeets, galahs and cockatoos nest in the nearby giant eucalypts and listen to the sound of........ nada, but nature. No traffic, no airplanes roaring in a couple of hundred of feet above my head that I have to pretend don't exist as I go about my business. And all for the price of less than one bedroom would cost of the apartment we used to rent out east - crazy.

Commuting, it takes me less time to get into the city on the train than it used to get there from out east on the buses in rush hour when the roads were clogged! And of course the paradox is that if you pay the premium to live a few suburbs nearer the city, you don't get a seat on the train, you get to stand for 30 mins instead! Selective school nearby. Great neighbours. Big, big garden to grow one's one veggie's or roses in. Swimming pool s galore. big plots. Awesome all round.

Main drawback is restaurants quite limited - though there are one or two gems - no coffee shops (invest your saving in a good espresso machine) and getting back from the city after a night out is a serious, serious pain. But if you're looking to settle down with good amenities, schools and transport, Mac fields is crazily good value compared to other suburbs that are way more expensive and, believe it or not, way more dangerous places to live or bring up the kids.

"A friendly community. Central to everything without the traffic!"

I would suggest MacFields for families. Great local schools, leisure facilities and sporting grounds to keep the kids busy. Excellent local shopping for everyday needs; Aldi, Coles and Woolworths with only a short drive to either the Cross Roads, Liverpool or Macarthur. Easy to get around by car or express trains into the city. Most of all the country feel with plenty of green space as MacFields is mainly surrounded by parks and bush with our own simmos beach for picnics.

"Still our good choice"

Finally we decided to buy our first home here and after 7 months still feeling very happy with our decision. Well, we put down so many dashes for this first house:
- Must be cheap so we can pay off quickly - Ticked as Macquarie Fields is one of the cheapest suburb and price is increasing from time we move in.
- Must be less than 1h access to city by public transport as we work in the city - Ticked, 45' to central by airport express line, almost with nice train.
- Look clean and safe - I found this area look cleaner, nicer and greener than many more expensive suburb we inspected before (we live in Victoria road, one of the main road) and lawn mower noise every weekend morning make me feel good, people here is trying to keep area tidy. Police station and fire station, ambulance are just outside shopping central so feeling safer with that. However, after weekend, local children playground getting dirty with bottle and take away boxes which i think council should work harder on this.
- Must have good rental yield because we want to upgrade to bigger house later - Ticked, eg: townhouse 260k can be rented >$300/wk.
- Must have acceptable childcare and school - with that one, i found that childcare quality is not as good as some area I rented before (but cant compare because those r expensive suburbs and childcare cost is double) but they almost have before and after school care with bus pick up and drop off. Primary school have normal ranking, couldnt find in the top 300 primary school in Sydney but high school is great. Macquarie Fields selective ranked 63 while hurlstone agricultural high school near by ranked 13 in Sydney which is so good.
- Sufficient facilities: This is great that this small area have almost everything our family need basically. Shopping central just 10 minutes walk from my house with Aldi, Woolworth, Coles, vegies shop, fish shop, chicken shop, subway, donut king, pharmacy.., and Target is opening this November but no decent coffee shop for someone like coffee. Other shopping can go to Westfield liverpool or Maccarthur not too far away. Big medical central and fitness near shopping central but this medical central have terrible waiting time (1hour). Near Macquarie Link international golf course, have indoor and outdoor swimming pool and tennis court... Bunning warehouse is in Cross road and also Costco and Ikea will open in Cross road soon which less than 10' drive.
Negatives:
- Too peaceful so can be boring for someone used to live in busy area (like me at first 3 months live here) now i like this.
- No good playground for small kids
- No good restaurant/night life
- Temperature will be hotter and colder than other areas.

In short, great value for money especially for first home buyer like me. It has everything in balance so can satisfy our need.

"Macquarie Fields : It has all the bells and whistles !"

I have lived (rented) in some of Sydney's so called elite suburbs, I have lived in Bondi, Neutral Bay, Mosman, Monterey, Dolls Point, Abbottsford, Five Dock and Kirribilli. In 2009, we finally decided to buy our first home in Macquarie Fields, I was reluctant at first but was talked into it by my husband. I will admit that I did not want to like the place because of the bad media coverage in 2005 and negativity of people whenever the name Macquarie Fields was mentioned. However, after living here for 4 years, I am now glad to call this wonderful suburb home and cannot imagine raising my family anywhere else. The troublesome housing commissions have been dissipated (not saying all housing commission people are bad - they aren't, most are decent people trying to get on with life but as with all things a few bad ones tend to have the remaining other tarnished as well)… anyway the point is that the bad elements have long been removed) The suburb now has a wonderful sense of multiculturalism, families of all creeds and religions mix together successfully. Children are respectful and polite, the local Primary school has a lot to do with that - Macquarie Fields Primary School focuses on manners, creativity, learning is fun and a strictly enforced No bullying policy. The standard of teachers providing education and calibre of student of which are graduating from this school have placed it as one of Sydney and NSW best Primary Schools, as is the case with the Selective Secondary School close by. The future of our Macquarie Fields kids are looking super bright, no doubt the future will see successful CEOs, statesmen and women hailing from these exceptional schools. We also have a TAFE which offer extensive course on a vast range of subjects

Macquarie Fields has Woolworths, Coles, Aldi and a plethora of smaller shops at Glenquarie Shopping Centre or a cluster of great shops to cover your every need at the Top Shops on Saywell Road, also home of the famous Pizza Box (voted #1 - Best Pizza in Sydney since 2010) And if you are after something more out of your shopping experience then a short 10-12 minute car ride sees you at any of the following Malls or Centres – (Campbelltown Mall, MacArthur Square or Liverpool Westfield, however Sydney CBD is only a short train ride away and who wants to drive into Sydney CBD anyway, trains and buses are a plenty and the Airport Train has you and the International Airport in 20 mins.

Christmas Eve sees streets lined with candles (both electric and real) along the foot path with Santa walking thru the streets at dusk with children trailing Santa like the pied piper all the way, whilst stopping at each house wishing everyone Merry Christmas, along the way Santa periodically stops to throw handfuls of candy (which are donated yearly by all the neighbours) in the air and children scramble feverishly to pick up the colourful goodies to stuff in their already bulging pockets (the smart ones carry little buckets or bags) year round families are playing sports at any of the 11+ ovals in the area or riding one of the many bike tracks in the area. The aquatic Centre is filled with squeals of joy and laughter on a hot day…the only thing missing to make life perfect is a Yoga and Pilates centre (maybe one day soon – fingers crossed)

Now for a local secret....Macquarie Fields has its own beach - yep Beach. When we first moved here we had a brief look at the "Beach" - What The ??? ...YUK!, but of late it has been cleaned and landscaped and is looking more like a private albeit very small beach and it is all ready for summer, it is a small hike through beautiful bush lands and then opens up onto a small white sand beach (waves not included so no surfing)....Geez now I have said it everyone will be there......hahah you will have to move here to find the location as it is a locals only beach ;o) 

Professionals and their families have discovered that Macquarie Fields is the hidden paradise where the house prices are still fairly affordable but are rising quarterly, with a lot of new houses built over the last 12 months and a lot more scheduled to be built. This is the Suburb that 10 years from now people will be breaking their backs and budgets to get into.

I feel safe here in Macquarie Fields, we have wonderful neighbours and a community spirit which truth be known I have never felt in any of the other suburbs I have lived, with the exception of my childhood home, in the more affluent suburbs I used to live (mentioned above) I did not even know who my neighbours were, in some locations I did not even see my neighbours...here we all know each other’s name and genuinely care and look out for one another…Macquarie Fields - who would have thought ? a place called home.
Pros
  • Multiculturalism at its best
  • Fast up and coming suburb
  • Internet reception is good

"Very potential!"

Won't be surprised the median prices of houses and units in the area are better than ever. New expansion of the Glenquarie Shopping Center with Coles, Woolworth and Aldi... 870, 871 and 872 buses cover almost every street. Back and forth to Sydney CBD just 45' with every 10' express trains in peak hours. Two selective schools within 5 kms.

"A well kept secret - but not for long"

Living in a big city with small town convenience and community spirit is the best way to describe Mac Fields. It has every convenience at hand - two great selective high schools within a 5 minute drive of each other; a great shopping centre, a TAFE and access to, well: everywhere! Surrounded by parks, sports facilities and mainly uncongested roads, getting around is easy.

"Successful, Safe and Serene"

I have been raised in this suburb by my parents, and went to Macquarie Fields High School. As known, it is a very successful school, and I was blessed to be a student there! As a result, I am studying law at university. In addition, with the aid of leisure facilities, I was able to compete as a national swimmer. Everything that is possibly needed is a walk or a short drive away! In addition, it is not a suburb that goes straight to the next. There is a large amount of green space with parks and the like so there is a separation between surrounding suburbs. Overall, Macquarie Fields is a brilliant place to live and I would not hesitate in recommending the suburb to anyone.

"A place one would like to live...."

Macquarie Fields is one place every one would love to live. Excellent place - quiet, eay access to all amneties, transport no problem. Lots of parking available at train station with 2-3 mns walk. School reputation is great plus lot of day care which is great with some closer to station with 10 minutes walk. Internet reception is excellent. Great place for raising children.
Pros

"great community with lovely neighbours, a lot quieter than people expect"

I agree with others, Macquarie Fields is not like it is perceived, unfortunately bad news travels faster than good. It is excellent for families - selective high school, local tafe, leisure centres, rail and plenty of green space - not closed in by other suburbs. I have raised my family here and found the location central to all our needs, our suburb is a well kept secret, all the negative attention however has kept our real estate down but by default has allowed good hard working families the opportunity of affordable housing into a great suburb which over time won't be a secret anymore.

"Much nicer than reputation suggests."

Have lived in this suburb for years and whilst the housing estate area has occasionally hit the news and created a negative impression of the suburb as a whole i have always found the suburb to be really nice. I dont believe property values in this area truly reflect how good it is and with a terrific selective school, gr8 shopping centre and easy access to both liverpool and campbelltown i think houses here are a gr8 buy. Lots of lovely streets and neighbours.
