"Expect suburb north of Hobart CBD"
Moonah has its own story and a true blue identity. First of the Northern Suburbs outside of Hobart Suburbs but still considered part of the Greater Hobart Region.
My wife and I purchased our first home in Moonah four years past, this was the best decision we made regarding property.
Cafes and restaurants abounding with all amenities for every age group. Access to the city is quite good with über and the 10min buses into Hobart (bring on the light rail!).
Plenty of parks and schools surround our home, good if you’ve got kids. We’ve got dogs instead, so we enjoy the parks and close proximity to groomers and pet stores.
I’d consider Moonah to be a safe suburb, like all places, after-hours can get sketchy but that’s indicative of all areas of Australia following too much grog (primarily near the pubs).
We love our Moonah.

"Up and coming"
Traditionally a working class area, but places are becoming more gentrified as Moonah is only 10/15 minutes to the Hobart CBD. The shopping strip still has a way to come but it has everything you would need, so a popular area for buyers looking for their first home.
Pros
- Close to the CBD
- up and coming
- gentrifying
- Close to shops
Cons
- the occasional bogan

"Cheap area to live, overall its ok, slightly uneasy at night."
Overall Moonah is ok, there are a few undesirables at times epically at night along Main Road. Quite a few shops close by.

"Organic Central"
Moonah is located 5 kms north north west of Hobart. It has a wide variety of housing styles, all beautifully maintained. It has a diverse collection of shops, restaurants, offices and services. The largest undercover farmer's market in Tasmania has its home here, where the finest organic produce is on display as well as crafts and restaurants. It has a great choice of schools and there are plenty of parks and gardens to enjoy. It is the perfect place to raise a family.
