"Country Lifestyle - City Convenience"

Vibrant town of 8500 located only 3.5 hours West of Sydney. The wide main streets are home to trendy cafe's and chic retail shops to rival larger centres.

Be greeted by a smile as you pass locals and relaxed visitors alike in the township, weekly farmers markets are a popular event showcasing local produce. An abundance of local vineyards feature celllar doors to sample.

Mudgee regularly hosts large events such as 'A Day on the Green', "Wine Wings and Wheels', Wine Festival and hold 7 race meetings a year that prove extremely poular.

A variety of housing is available to suit all budgets. The expanding Mining Industry located well out of town has brought many new faces to town and also provided locals with an oportunity to enter the industry.

Mudgee......a great place to live!

"Its nice but extremely rude people"

Moved here at the start of the year and love it I mean lovely restaurants as I am a foodie and gorgeous cafes with yummo coffee. Gym is good, plenty to do on weekends as we have family and adore the country atmosphere but the people here come accross rude and dont want a bar of you unless you are a local oh and dont forget if u have kids its pricey the town and as for the whole vibe I do like it just wish people weren't so rude to me where I am. Mudgee overall a great place maybe its because I'm a typical miners wife with a family and when yoU mention mine to people they get upset well hate to say it but if it wasn't for the mines I can say Mudgee would be a ghost town with not nice parks etc and the nicer things,,,,

"Thanks Mud"

Glad that someone else agrees with me. I'm thinking that some of the great reviews are written by real estate agents. To the person who asked me which parts of Mudgee to avoid - none really. The crime rate is pretty low.
sezzz
sezzz I got a notification of an any parts of mudgee to avoid question as well, but can't seem to find it. I'd say maybe avoid a couple of streets nearby the west end sporting complex. Bit daggy there.

"No need to leave town when on holidays"

Best place to live in Australia. We have lived here for 4years. We have lived in lots of small towns and Mudgee is the best one yet. This is a town for families there is so much to do if you want to get out there Art, Sport,Winers markets every weekend and so much more. For the size of the town we have everthing you could want in a 5min drive. l find the people happy and friendly how lucky we are to have found it.

Shazbot Thanks. Seems from reading most of the reviews on here, the story that you need to "be a local or don't bother, you aren't welcome" is a myth.

Good thing too. My husband and I want to move here one day.

"Boring and Expensive"

I moved here to live in the bush and that's the only good thing I can say about the place. Absolutely nothing to do. People don't want to know you unless you are a local, unless of course they can know all your business and then tell everyone else. Lousy pay yet the prices are Sydney prices. I don't shop here purely on principle, except for groceries. Try seeing a doctor? Wait 3 weeks. I will stay another couple of years because I enjoy the ambiance` of my land and I have great neighbours (they are from Sydney of course). The boredom of this place is mind numbing. Speaking to a hire place here where new people come - a lot of people go as well, purely because of lack of anything to do.
ilovemudgee
ilovemudgee Hi benlauren,

Sorry to hear your views on Mudgee. I agree that the Medical system needs to be looked at, 3 weeks is an unacceptable time frame to wait (off course emergencies are dealt with sooner). Your impression of peoople, pay and prices are cetainly different to mine but everyone is entitled to their opinion. You mentioned that the boredom is mind numbing, perhaps you may like to view our blog on Mudgee (http://ilovemudgee.com.au), we like to promote local events and topical local issues perhaps this may help you see the Mudgee that I see and LOVE.

Best wishes

mud
mud The other person who added a comment is obviously a local therefore not treated with rudeness and contempt by other 'locals' ie. very small minded people. I couldnt have described Mudgee better than benlauren..try being a single mum living in this loserville...Sad but true. The only time I enjoy Mudgee is when I have visitors..too bad I have to stay here when they go home..

benlauren1 Fortunately I have now moved to a bigger country town and am loving it. The people are really friendly. There it a lot more of a social life and I'm much happier. I miss the land and the space, but I sure don't miss the people.

ilovemudgee Again it is disappointing to hear of your experiences here, most people I meet that move here love it and find the local community engaging, its a pity you mustn't have mixed with the right people.

Mud, I also feel sorry that you feel that way, I can assure you that as a "local" I don't treat anybody any differently, I have lots of friends that have moved here and love the place, its like anywhere, its what you make of it.

ilovemudgee Mud we actually love where we live and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I didn't realise there was a problem in being proud of the place you live? Its a shame a few bitter people can attempt to ruin the reputation of a great area.

ilovemudgee I'm all for Free Speech, that's why I thought I would voice my opinion that I feel your comment that ALL "locals" were rude and small minded was not a fair representation of the area. You are certainly entitled to your opinions, I just feel that people using this service might want a rounded view.

BARBER As l have said in my own comment Mudgee is the best small town l have EVER lived in,it sounds to me that benlauren has never lived in a smaller town.Sorry benlauren that you didn't like our town and you found the 'locals' rude and tell everyone your business,as for me l don't care who no my business as l have nothing to hide. l now l can grow old here and feel very safe and happy in my town. 5 years living here now and many many more to come BEST PLACE IN N.S.W

benlauren1 You also might learn how to spell and punctuate. You wouldn't want to grow old there and get sick. Can't see a doctor straight away and have to go to Orange or Dubbo or even further to get major medical work done. No further comments will be forthcoming. I have made my point. Some people just don't like the truth when they hear it.

BARBER Boredom comes from within, and so does rudeness . As for spelling and grammar l didn't think it was a spelling bee l thougt it was a comment board for Mudgee. l have lived in 9 towns including Orange and l hope you enjoy your winters, you will have lot of time inside on the computer picking on people and there towns . lf you had taken the time to speak to loacls as l have you would know that to see a doctor you sit out the front till they open and you get a appointment on that day.

adriel Mudgee is way too expensive, $385/week average rental property!!! unless you're a miner (that's why its expensive) you'll go broke because other wages here are not special. Got to agree with other post, boring night life unless special occasion. It's nice with all the cafe's and such but yeah not great for young people

mud Yep Wellington's not so flash but they always say g'day. Funny but I recently met a girl who moved from Sydney and I thought she'll be fine and make lots of friends as she works for a large government organisation with quite a few staff. Apparently they barely give her the time of day..so cliquey.

ilovemudgee It's a shame that benlauren and mud didn't meet while you were both living here, you could have got together and whinged about lots of stuff. Enjoy living in Orange or Wellington or anywhere else with a high crime rate. Unfortunately in life those who like to have a sook are more vocal than those that have a positive outlook on life.
Have a great weekend, I'll be enjoying Mudfest, Mudgee's Small Film festival.
2yrs+
benlauren
benlauren Mudgee has a low crime rate because the locals slaughtered all the Aborigines. Charming. The film festival is probably too expensive for the locals, like most of the one off functions Mudgee puts on. Watch the BMW line up in Market Street this weekend indicating that Sydney has come for the weekend. That was always a giggle.
2yrs+
ilovemudgee
ilovemudgee Actually as with most events it is reasonably priced, $25 a head. Are you suggesting that Aboriginals cause crime? Now that is charming. It's always great to have visitors enjoy our town and spend money in the local economy.

mud
mud Yes there is a very unfortunate history with the Wiradjuri tribe around the region when martial law was declared. Unfortunately I believe that this has sucked alot of the soul out of the land. Sadly, this traumatic past has led to some crime in areas where there are Indigenous people but only because they had their power and autonomy taken away by white settlers.

"Great place to live!"

Moved here a couple of years ago from Muswellbrook, Mudgee is so much nicer! Good shopping, restaurants and parks. Markets every weekend, and events in the vineyards and some in town too.
It's great living somewhere people actually want to come visit! Love the buzz of the tourists on the weekends.

"'Nest in the Hills'"

A 'Nest in the Hills' is the exact way to describe such a beautiful place where I was born and bred. A great town with heart, spirit and soul. While still keeping to the country aspects of working hard together and getting your hands dirty it grasps on to the city life having not much of the hustle and bustle but more the unique-ness of quality stores professional people surrounding you, while watching that great big cattle truck come though the main street, sipping on the coffee and then walking down through the lucious green parks.Everthing is with in distance and is never a hastle. I remember riding my bike around these streets & playing on the swings in the rocket park and all I can say is MUDGEE I CANT WAIT TO COME BACK.

ClaudiaP
ClaudiaP Low crime? Break and Enter, and Robbery figures are lower than average but Domestic Violence, Violent Crimes and Sexual Assault cases in Mudgee are ABOVE state averages. 62 sexual assault or indecent assault cases were reported last year alone, and most assaults go unreported, so you do the math. Not good odds for women and children in Mudgee. Please keep your kids close. Dont let them use public toilets, not in carparks, parks, not even in Big W. Not safe!

"Mudgee - Place for fine wine and gourmet food."

Located in the Cudgeong Valley about 282 kms west of Sydney is Mudgee. Mudgee is a farming area and is well known for its wine. Under a four hour drive from Sydney it is a favourite long weekend haunt for people looking to get away from the city without the crowds of the coastal regions. There are some very old and interesting buildings to see in the town as well as the Mudgee Railway Station. The Mudgee taste Trail and gourmet trail gives you the opportunity to taste some of the local produces and taste some great wines and the cellar door outlets. Munghorn gap Nature Reserve is ideal for bushwalking and bird watching. Mudgee offer old style hospitality in the many accommodation choices on offer with great restaurants and eateries.
