"Relaxed town but frustrating (and bone jarring) on the road"

I'm not going to repeat what others have already said. I've lived in the town for two and a half years and whilst I'm happy enough living in this country town, driving can be painful. I'm always keen to do at least the speed limit but there are many in the area who can't help but dawdle at 20-30km/h under the limit, especially where overtaking is difficult or impossible. So if you're a bit of a lead foot, take my advice. Don't live in or around Murwillumbah. It will only cause aggravation. And don't get me started on the atrocious quality of the roads.

"A Great Community to raise a family and enjoy life"

Get the best of both worlds with beautiful Murwillumbah, small country town (or as some same a City!!) with one traffic light and 6 Pubs!

Not too far from the beach with great swimming spots and just a car trip away from the famous Gold Coast.

Experience the coastal life and the Rural life with diverse entertainment and lifestyle

Being a Murwillumbah Home town girl I definitely understand the love and pull that this strong town has on the people in it, having recently moved away due to family circumstances I definitely miss the people and amazing views of mt warning as you come over the bridge into the heart of Murwillumbah
Pros
  • Heart of Mt Warning with amazing panoramic views of the caldera
  • Delicious restaruants and cafes
  • Beautiful springs and creeks Amazing wildlife

"Visually beautiful, that.s about it"

There are pluses and minuses to every place. We can leave our backdoor open by accident and never have a problem, but if you didn't grow up in a small town then you may be surprised by the small-town gossips.
If you like tradies and the CWA you should fit right in.

"Fantastic town!"

Now that most of the red-necks are moving out and the educated artist-types are moving in, M'Bah is fantastic!

"No need to lock your doors at night"

Gangsta violence is located on the coast in Kingcliffe and Tweed Heads this is the latest story - http://www.tweednews.com.au/story/2010/02/15/call-to-curb-violence/

Murwillumbah installed CCTV throughout town and is very safe to get around, day or night.

"Cute country town, more sophisticated than most - but would choose to live in surrounding villages"

Murwillumbah itself is a delightful art deco country town - far more attractive and sophisticated (in recent years) than most Australian country towns. As the population of M'bah and surrounding villages has become "gentrified" with an influx of Brisbane, Goldcoast and Sydney "tree changers" in recent years, the town has kept pace with pavement cafes, speciality shops and delis to match any larger town - although on a smaller scale obviously.

Plenty of Doctors surgeries, dentists and Murwillumbah hospital take care of medical needs and there are all kinds of schools from RC to alternative. Nightlife is pretty much in one of the 5 or so pubs and many restaurants - although special dinner dances are a monthly feature of one such eatery and there's an active local drama group who stage regular events.

There's everything you really need for day to day living in M'bah itself, but for a "big shop", South Tweed Heads has a huge shopping centre (20 mins drive), Goldcoast is only 35 mins or so and Brissie less than an hour and a half - so within a day trip for something different.

I wouldn't choose to live in M'bah itself - why move to the country and live in town after all? Visit the surrounding villages and take a look at them - Crystal Creek (and Upper Crystal Creek in particular as it's stunningly beautiful) is only 10mins (12mins for Upper CC) from the town centre and has room to breathe, move and get a family pony. Uki is closer to Mt Warning so has more of a rainforest feel, Stokers is south and flatter but still very pretty. If you want to go further out then Tyalgum is charming, but it's a 25-30 minute drive to M'bah, so be aware you could get fed up with that after a while.

All in all a fantastic place to live - but don't only look at Murwillumbah central if you're thinking of moving here.

"Honest country folk"

Such a pretty little town full of good honest working class people. Only 25 mins to the big smoke and 15 mins to the gorgeous beaches of the Tweed Coast. Big thumbs up!!!

MamaM Yes, I would like to hear more. We are considering a move there soon, though are more drawn to surrounding villages at this stage. Have the cameras installed around town made a difference?

"Murwillimbah - Ideal base for exploring the small quaint towns nearby."

Murwillumbah is on the far north coast of NSW as is only a short 30 min drive to the Gold Coast and is a major centre for many small towns around the area. There are Heritage buildings in the town that have been restored and there are galleries and museums to visit. There are plenty of places to eat and accommodation is plentiful but to be warned that in summer and school holidays it is best to book. Murwillumbah is on the Tweed River so boating and fishing is popular with good catches in some of the estuaries. The hinterland provides some ideal bushwalking and bird watching and visiting some of the small towns in the area which offer arts and crafts as well as fresh local produce is a great day out.
