"Very pretty"

I lived there when I was a child and still have friends that live there now. Beautiful parks. Very close to the city. All sorts of restuarants/ take outs. Great night life. However, really expensive. Even though it's very city centric, there is also fabulous parks, one featuring large rose gardens all through it near the river and a large playground. Many people get married there due to the immaculate presention; manicured trees and blooming flora all around and the river as the back drop. Resturants and shopping are usually within walking distance or a very short bus/car ride. A combo of beautiful well-maintained old-world homes, modern and older apartments and units. Some areas have that suburb-y feel, others have a very city-chic aura. An expensive place, but more then likely worth it in the long run.
Pros
  • Beautiful suburb with historic circa homes

"Dump the car, kitchen and tv, and battle your nemesis on foursquare for mayor"

Pay $80 for breakfast in your overpriced uber skinny jeans, but it will be worth it for the sound of the vintage MV Agusta starting over out front. Brag about your bargain and oh so non replica designer furniture in any of the hundred or so restaurant or cafes, and enjoy the street theatre that walking access to local clubs and nightlife engenders.

"New Farm great place to rent"

New Farm is now known as an elite suburb for those wanting to buy. Being so central New Farm will always have a good chance for capital growth. Although is most suited to those wanting to rent. Why?

Well consider there are very wealthy investors purchasing in the area and taking massive shortfalls to offset against tax (negative gearing). When you consider $1,000,000 @ 8% is $80,000 per annum plus council rates etc. You CAN still rent these properties for $420-$520 of which in only a fraction of what you would have to pay if you rent over buying.

I know many individuals personally that will only live in Brisbane CBD or New Farm due to the affordability of New Farm it makes it a fantastic place to rent.

"Look no further than New Farm"

Lets be honest. New Farm is wonderful. I could finish here but I won't because there are few other things that New Farm should be known for other than its wonderfulness!

New Farm goes no where. Its located on an almost peninsula like bend on the Brisbane River and as a result has very little traffic. But there are particular streets that at 1:00am are still carrying quite a bit of non-local traffic. Being located next to Fortitude Valley is both a curse and a blessing. Generally, (very general), most Queenslanders love driving. The idea of walking to get groceries and coffee isn't as popular as I believe it will be in the future. I strongly believe you could live in New Farm and not even own a car. Its radical thinking I know. Walk to the city, the shops, parks, doctors. If Brisbane has a 'european village' style suburb, then New Farm is it.

New Farm is one of Brisbane's oldest suburbs, its swamped with masses of leafy trees and cool river side open parks. It has a theatre on the river in what was Brisbane's source of electricity. A converted power station now hosts everything for stand up comedy to small dramatic pieces, a treasure it is.

Home styles vary. You name it - its here. Free standing homes to penthouse apartments. I wouldn't recommend it for kids. But it comes at a cost. Its a very sought after location, so is pricey. Many units and some homes have river views and they're not free.

Its a little cosmopolitain and quirky, but also conservative with its historically listed homes. Take a drive through New Farm and see for yourself.

Vashti Why not for kids? There is an excellent park in Newfarm backing onto the river with a quality playground and a good local primary school or two...I agree with everything else said here though...

Beautiful... 4 years ago when I first came to Australia, Brisbane I was about to get depressed but since I moved to New Farm about 2 years ago everything changed. It's absolutely a beautiful place to leave. I am quite happy to drive 30 min each way to work everyday but live in New Farm forever.

"Great place to buy"

I have recently bought a one bedroom place in new farm. I live here and walk to work in the city. The lifestyle here is amazing - the cafes are genuinely great, with variety and style. Although an inner city location, it also affords a friendly atmosphere - I've found home!!

"New Farm is not a suburb its a lifestyle!"

Before i moved to Brisbane several years back i asked people where is the best place to live? The best advice i got was from someone who said to me...

'If you work in the city then its a choice between a small house in New Farm or an apartment in the City"

Now i love living high in the skies with great views but now days apartments are small and expensive, especially when you way up the cost of body corporate.

Whether your renting your buying the best choose in the entire city is New Farm because of its all round diversity, nightlife, cafes and restaurants blended with its super central location of which is walking distance to the pubs and work in the city cbd.

"Great atmosphere and environment to live!"

New Farm is funky, fresh, versatile and gay friendly!

If you want a trendy new lifestyle look no further than New farm. On Brunswick St. you have many restaurants and cafes. One of my favourite is the Himalyan restaurant and urge burger. Many locals argue between which is better Urge burger or Grill'd with its gourmet burgers.

Other features of New Farm include proximity to the city, story bridge, clubs and pubs in the Valley and the River Walk. Not to mention the many majestic old refurbished homes combined with new executive estates.

New Farm has come a long way in the past 10 years and i am sure its demand is only going to continue to sky rocket. This is already evidently clear, the amount of properties going under contract in this so called 'recession' is unreal. Just jump on Realestate.com.au and take a look for yourself =)

"New Farm is the only place to live in Brisbane"

Great restaurants, fabulous views and an amazing vibe that can't be beat.

You can never be stuck for something to do in New Farm. There's a beautiful park, the riverwalk, heaps of shops, gyms, restaurants and bars. You can walk, ride or drive into the city in minutes. If you want to go clubbing, a taxi won't cost much to get you back home safe and sound.

Doesn't matter what age you are either. There is something for everyone, with community centres, a public library, schools, daycare, day spas and...did I mention the restaurants?
