"Leafy and great for families"

We have lived in Palmyra for over 15 years. It is a great suburb for families, with the kids often running over to play with neighbours kids or go up to the local park, It is fairly quiet, and a leafy suburb, with quite of lot of the large gum trees and lots of parks. We made the effort to get to know our neighbours and all our local ones are great. The suburb is close to the river (Point Walter), the beach and freo. It is definitely not nightlife central, but freo or the city is not that far away and there are local coffee shops/restaurants . Trip to the city is normally 20 minutes, or can be up to 35-40 min in peak hour.
Pros
  • Mixture of different work class peoples
  • Parks and plenty of people to walk your dog with

"Friends around the corner"

We have only been living here since April, although we have visted the suberb for years visiting friends. We totaly love Palmyra. We can walk to either Woolworths or Coles with our two kids. The school has a great farmers market on a Sunday creating a realaxed atmosphere and community spirit. There are loads of essential shops within walking distance if you are willing to cross the pedestrian lights at Canning highway. There are loads of great parks too. The blocks are not the grand 750sqm although I think peoples life styles have moved on from this and into more managable sized blocks. We are also not having 4-5 child families any more. Our internet service is FAST. There was no problem setting up internet TV! Our street does not have underground power yet although, in the future, Im sure it will. There are loads of trees and birds. And when friends come to visit they always mention how quiet it is. I go walking every day and people are always curtious. I love Palmyra and that fact that people grow their own vegie patches on the nature strip (verge). Really great to see. Close to Freo, public transport and river how could you go past it.

"All good"

I have lived here around 3 years and love it. We are at the East Freo end, and have access to all the shops, cafes, facilities of Pally, Bicton, Freo and Melville. Better value than neighbouring suburbs. Some of the quaint cottages haven been bowled for units which is a shame, but you get that anywhere close to the city. Public transport good - direct to the city down Canning Highway.

"Great little suburb"

Have been living around the area for around 8 years now. Close to the river, Freo and the beach. Good access to shopping at Garden city or around the O'connor/Melville areas. Only reason I'll be moving is if I can afford to move over to East Fremantle...Probably biggest drawbacks are it's not easy finding family sized houses and it isn't the best for transport links into the CBD but not really an issue for me.

"Keep on driving..."

All the people who write reviews do you live in Palmyra? Do you notice how people walk the streets at 2-3am drinking? Havent you noticed how close all the tree are to the power lines? Theres no underground power in this suburb. No Fiber or cable internet. What would you say defines a developed suburb? Sad to say its a bunnings, kfc, more than 1 set of shops that has a newsagent and a post office attached... Its not exactly a thriving community with all the tiny 200-400m2 lots and insane number of dead end streets and round about. What defines a bad suburb? perhaps a meat packing plant? and parks where people leave human bodily solids on the bbq facilities. If you think palmyra is worth any more than 2 stars you've never really lived anywhere else.
Pros
  • Lots of small units all over, cheap housing close to freo
Cons
  • So so many cars blocking everything all the time. People park like morons right on corners and lawns.

Pallygirl Lived in Palmyra for over 10 years and never noticed people walking the streets 2-3am drinking - not that I'm usually up that time. Perhaps it depends on what side of Marmion Street you are on? Love the trees - it is what makes an established suburb. It brings the birds, much needed shade and character to the suburb. Community spirit is thriving - make an effort to be part of it. Supsect maybe the last two reviewers would be unhappy wherever they lived.

"High Density here we come"

Palmyra, it is what it is. Old worker cottages exist all over the place and new precast houses standing 2 stories tall. A mixture of new and old. There is however the element of to much to fast with local zoning changed many existing quaint houses being demolished to make units resulting in a higher than usual proportion of homes west housing. There are no shops, no cafe strips, no places to eat. What it appears to have however are dog and cat owners in spades. You cant go for a walk around palmyra without bumping into many a person walking their favorite pet. There are substantial feral cat problems and breakins rates are higher than most suburbs unfortunately. If you have the money to build a new house with high walls its a great suburb to live in. For anyone else, stay out and pray you never have the misfortune to be born in Palmyra.
Pros
  • Parks and plenty of people to walk your dog with
  • Mixture of different work class peoples
  • bin pickup is at 5am
Cons
  • Parks that attract billions of dogs and hundreds of feral cats
  • Mixture of different worker class people
  • bin pickup is at 5am
StuartD
StuartD I believe the zoning resulting in the many subdivisions reverted back in the last ten years to something more moderate.

"Green and Friendly"

I have lived in Palmyra for around 8 years. I love the mix of houses (although intensely dislike it when someone pulls down an old cottage to build a square box). Being an old established area the parks are well established as are street trees. The people are friendly and access to the city, Fremantle, Garden City, beach and river is just minutes away. Fantastic place to live!

"Villa Local"

I've been living in Palmyra for the last 3 years and have loved living in the area. I live in a villa group of 8 and all neighbours are good quality friendly people of all ages. The suburb has soul and character with a variety of different individual houses of all decades. Its 10 mins to freo, 5mins to the river, 15mins to Garden City, so location is fantastic. The only negative is it is expensive to buy, especially when you think of the block size (a lot of half blocks usually 450 - 550 sqm) compared to some other surrounding suburbs.
