"Nice area, unhelpful coucil"

The area is lovely with lots of parks and trails; however, with nature comes wildlife and wildlife in suburbia can cause enormous problems. If you move to the area my advice is DON'T live next to a gum tree! There is a huge population of parrots and other birds that flock and nest in the trees, they are disruptive and cause a lot of disturbance and mess.
The house I lived in was alongside a gum tree where a large amount of parrots called home. They were so noisy they gave me regular headaches and I had to turn the TV volume up full just to hear what I was watching in the evenings. They chewed branches that dropped everywhere so the yard was a constant mess. The branches would drop on my roof and wake me all through the night leaving me irritable and sleep deprived. The branches, leaves and bark from the gum tree would fill the gutters and cover my yard daily; no sooner had I cleaned and swept than it was back. The organic matter also stained all the concrete. I felt like I lived in a bird avery, the entire yard was covered in bird droppings and feathers, which are a health risk! There was so much bird crap that I couldn't find a clean spot to walk, it was revolting. The droppings also stained and stuck to the concrete and were impossible to remove, even with high pressure hosing. The council were unsympathetic and would not fix the problem after many prompts. I tried all the things you read online to get the birds to relocate: the hawk, the light reflecting objects, the scary eye balloon: A waste of money, nothing worked. So, I was left with no choice but to move out.
In addition to the birds there are a lot of cockroaches in the area, probably due to the nature aspect and organic matter. I'd go for a walk at night and see them all over the footpaths. I had to seal up all access areas in the house, e.g. the drains, as they were finding their way inside.
Oh! Not to forget, there's some outdoor event that takes place approx. once a month. I heard it at night, someone talking on a microphone and then fireworks. I have no idea where this occurs; fortunately, I didn't live close but it must be loud if I heard it from afar. I assume it comes from a park or recreation center. I usually heard it between 9 pm and 11 pm.
As other people have said there is crime and I had things taken out my yard. The people in the area in general are lovely: friendly and decent, and a mix of different nationalities and ages. However, there are random houses here and there that contain problem types that can make your life a misery so pick your street very carefully, I guess really it's pot luck and you don't know until it's too late.
Good luck! If you get it right it can be good, if you get it wrong it can be hell.

"Peaceful and safe place for family."

I am living in Pooraka for more than a year now. I haven't seen any problems like other suburbs. My neighbourhood is nice and we have casual interaction. The suburb is beautiful and many families from different background are living here. This may also be due to a University and technology park next to this suburb.
Highly recommended!

"Nothing special with unsafe and noisy neighbours"

Have lived in Pooraka going on to 5 years now. While most of the houses do look nice and some gardens are well established with plenty of green lush flowers and bushes, you would be forgiven for thinking this is a good area going on appearences passing through.

However, if you are assuming this is a good area then you are sadly mistaken. It's ok, but have lived in better suburbs than this one.
Before living in Pooraka we lived around the Elizabeth area which generally has a bad reputation. Pooraka as we discovered after moving here is one of those areas that has its problems.

The street we live on has problems with noise and there have been about 3 home break ins on our street since we have lived here. If you like being verbally abused by a neighbouring family that's clearly lost their marbles, and having your visitors made to feel uncomfortable then by all means live here. Our street gets very loud late into the night sometimes with this oh so wonderful family on the street with speeding cars, honking horns and screaming. Very disruptive when you gotta be up at 6am for work. Mostly the neighbours are polite but it doesn't feel like you can count on them to watch your house if you go away on holiday. We understand that you can't choose your neighbours, but sometimes you encounter the difficult neighbours that disturb the peace. Also noticed that we get people passing by on motorbikes regularly which is unsettling. This area just doesn't feel safe and plan on moving out of Pooraka very soon, thank goodness for that!

I am certain that there are parts of Pooraka that are decent, but we have had a bad experience living here so that's why our opinion is negative.

"Noisy place to live! unsafe, but it depends also where is your house located, you can have good neighbours but it is a lucky thing."

Pooraka has some good streets, with clean gardens and very well care of houses, but crime and pubs, close to Bridge Rd, is a pain ! . I am not recommend this st for Families. Priscilla st is very nice, but not sure about the neighbors. everything depend of the people you are surrounded, of course there is very nice people, but how to know about your neighbors before buying or renting!
