"A home away from home"

I have been visiting Riverview, QLD for about 4 years now. I love coming for a visit.

It’s close to Redbank Plaza, the Brisbane River, the city of Ipswich, the Ipswich Motorway and the train station is only a short walk away.
It’s a perfect location for singles, house share and families as all amenities are close by.

The reason I enjoy coming to Riverview is because I live in busy non stop Smokey Melbourne, my neighbour’s live on top me. I have a small pokey garden.
All the places I have seen in Riverview have big open yards and privacy. I also find that Riverview is like living out Bush, surrounded by wildlife and lots of birds.

"The South West’s Best Kept Secret for Home Buyers Breaking into the Market"

After living all over Brisbane I finally bought my own house at Riverview 4303.

I fell in love with my house at first sight and got a lot of bang for my buck.

Quiet, neighbourly and safe. Great suburb qualities for a single Mum and her kids.

Close to shops, schools, train, freeways (at the Gold Coast in just over an hour). This suburb really does have a lot going for it.

I’ve been living in RIVERVIEW for just over 4 years and couldn’t recommend it more. It really is the South West’s best kept secret.

An affordable suburb perfect for those wanting to break into the housing market and not break the bank.

"There's good and bad..."

We've lived here for 2 years, moving to Gold Coast in a couple months for Hubby's work. Young couple with a toddler and 2 dogs.

It's a great suburb for value for money, especially after starting out on the north side of Brisbane, we are renting a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with a large yard for $350 per week.

There are heaps of schools and childcare places to choose from, Redbank Plaza is great, and Orion and Riverlink are not too far away. You can commute to Brisbane City or Ipswich quite easily, about 30 minute drive to Brisbane and 20 minutes to Ipswich.

Public transport is okay, but not great. There is one bus that goes through riverview, and it rarely runs on time, either early or late. There is also the train station, but we are about a 30min uphill walk from Riverview station, and it is not very accessible for pranks or wheel chairs as there is no lift to get over the tracks, if you need to cross you have to spend about 10 minutes walking down the road and then under the tracks. Getting to Springfield is quite time consuming, by train you have to switch at Darra, and by bus you can either switch at Redbank Plaza or Goodna station, the journey including waiting times is usually about 1 hour 30 minutes either way.

We love that there is more bush and trees than most of the new estates, but the parks are often taken over by misbehaving teens, and the bush trails are abused by people on dirt bikes, which the police seem to not really care about.

There is a neighborhood watch, but that seems to be just more of a social thing for the few residents that participate rather than actually preventing crime. The newsletter often reports stolen items, break ins and vandalism and they aren't allowed to print everything that happens.

Most of the time the Neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful, unfortunately there are a few houses that like to party, with very loud music playing till late in the night and drunk people yelling out and sometimes fighting with each other. There are also quite a few hoons in the area, some of which speed around, other just have extremely noisy cars.

Also the newer houses are very cheaply built, the ones on stilts shake and wobble, whether it's windy or you're just walking down the hallway.

The climate is not great, it gets very cold at night and very hot in the day. Winter nights and summer days are awful. But there usually are good breezes which are nice on the more temperate days. Also it seems to either rain constantly or not at all, and the soil quality is terrible, I do not recommend living here if you like to have a nice lawn and garden.

All in all I do not regret living here, but I wouldn't plan on staying here for long.

I would recommend this suburb for family's with kids, and probably retirees, but just make sure you check out the neighbors around the house your looking at.

If you are moving here or already moved here I would suggest getting connected with the neighborhood watch, and the community center on Old Ipswich Road. There are a lot of little events and weekly get togethers that you may enjoy.

"Riverview, Goodna, Ipswich 4303 Qld - Brisbane"

Ive lived in Riverview 8 months now and we just got broken into....the number of people on drugs and unemployed is very high around these suburbs. The cops told us that Riverview has about 5-6 home break ins every single day..I do not recommend this suburb if you are with kids, etc...I have not felt safe here.
riverviewien
riverviewien I'm surprised. Out of curiosity which side do you live on ie: on the same side as the train station or on the other side of the highway?

JenNable
JenNable Worst suburb I have ever lived in. I agree with Anjali. High crime, drugs, bad kids, police constantly been called out, violence of all kinds, loud parties on centerlink pay days that keep people up, yelling, screaming, fighting, abuse and not a safe area at all. It's the Bronx of Ipswich. The only positive is the state school. I wouldn't wish living here on my worst enemy.

"Great Suburb"

I had never heard of Riverview before moving here from the inner city. I was a first home buyer desperate to get into the market and could not believe the affordability of the suburb. Took a chance, made the move and have never regretted it for an instant. I have lived hear for nearly ten years and have moved my mother in just down the road (not too close!) nine years ago after realising what a safe and friendly suburb it was. Admittedly, it hasn't always been that way, but because of the dedication and persistance of the local neighbourhood watch group and the will of the residents of the suburb to make it a great and safe place to live, it has been from before I moved here. Neighbours are friendly and helpful, but don't want to live in your pocket! Great neighbourhood network with the neighbourhood house which has activities during school holidays, helps the unemployed get training, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Great public transport. It shocked me when I realised I could just hail a bus from the side of the road, not just a stop (In brisbane they used to just sail by even though I was only 20 metres from the stop and running). Easy access to Redbank Plaza which has IGA and Coles, Kmart and Target and a bunch of specialty shops and cinemas. A new woolworths has also gone in down the road, everything is within a quick drive that you could need. Local convenience store, doctors surgery, chemist, op shop and takeaway in the heart of Riverview.

JeffG Thanks for the detailed review. I'm interested in more details about the suburb. What areas to avoid and have all the developments in Ipswich greater made the place generally better? Look forward to your response.

riverviewien
riverviewien Hi Jeff, There is definitely a different 'vibe' (for want of a better word) from one side of Riverview to the other. The side that the train station/waste transfer station etc is on seems subject to a lot more antisocial behaviour than the side with the school/shops/doctors. However, saying that, it is not completely exempt. There appears to be more owner occupiers on the school/shop/doctor side which may translate into more responsible behaviour, I don't know. There is still work to be done in this suburb, however it has come a long way. I think if you are looking to get into the housing market it is a value suburb. People power is a great tool in reducing antisocial behaviour and crime. People need to be vigilent and involve themselves in things such as neighbourhood watch and reporting suspicious behaviour rather than go to online forums bagging an entire suburb and relying on police only to fix the issue. :-). The upgrade to the Ipswich Motorway which FINALLY happened has made access to the city better, created bikeways and foothpaths directly to redbank plaza and made it so you can get around locally without having to use the motorway, while the design has prevented Riverview from being used as a 'ratrun' for motorway traffic. I think the development in Ipswich can only have positive flow on effects to Riverview as investors are seeing it as a high value area which is open and welcoming to development. Paul Pissale is a quality political representative of the area who I genuinely believe has the best interests of Ipswich in mind.

JeffG Thanks Riverviewien. If there are a few like you who are house & suburb proud then I'm sure that collectively you can reduce the anti-social behavior and crime. What is attracting me to the area is the value in the suburb, that is close to the high growth Brisbane to Ipswich corridor and the fact that it has a train line that can easily get you into Brisbane and Ipswich in a very short time. In addition there seem to be a whole bunch of employment opportunities that are popping up in the area, like Citiswich and the Springfield employment hub. Thanks for your response and I think i will take your advice and look further into the Riverview!

KarenY HI Riverviewien, I have great interests reading your comments about Riverview and now thinking about to move into Riverview. Is that possible to meet you at Riverview somewhere? My email address is kyu53@me.com and my mob is 0414350096. Thanks Karen

riverviewien Hi Karen, thanks for your message. Unfortunately I am not currently residing in Riverview as I had to relocate to NSW for work. I've rented out my house to a lovely guy who fortunately loves our fruit orchard as much as we did and is taking great care of it for when we return! I still consider Riverview to be an excellent suburb to buy in and incredibly good value for money. Ipswich is forging ahead with only recently a $150 million redevelopment of the Ipswich City Mall being announced. All the best finding your dream property! :-)

KarenY Hi Riverviewien, thanks for your reply. It is a shame that can't meet you now but please let me know if you come back. I am quite likely to buy a property at Riverview and hope to meet with local people like yourself. Please let me know if you know anyone who is happy to meet with new comers. All the best! Karen

RishiD Hi riverviewien - can you please advise any floods or bushfires which i need to worry about? Sorry new to brisbane and trying to buy a new land and build house in new estate near old ipswich road. Can you please guide me if there is anything I need to worry about ?

riverviewien
riverviewien Hi RishiD, the best advice I can give you in regards to flooding information is to check out the flood maps available on the Ipswich City Council website. You used to be able to put in an address and determine whether it had been affected by flood. Make sure to check both the 2010 AND the 1974 flood levels. I was looking at buying a house after the 2010 floods that the real estate agent assured me it didn't flood - not in 2010 it didn't, but it DID in 1974! In regards to bushfire risk - I think I know the development you are talking about and I think you would be pretty safe from any significant fire threat as it is mostly grassland and you have a couple of natural firebreaks around you with watercourses and roads. All the very best finding your dream home! :-)

RishiD thanks for the info , the development is Kingsfield facing the park and near the red bank plaza. Its towards the school side and hope the neighbourhood is good.

""The friendliest suburb I've ever lived in!""

I've lived in Child St in Riverview for over 7 years and I've never lived in a friendlier street in my life. Riverview in general is one of the only areas that you will regularly see neighbours chatting to each other over the fence.

For the first 4 years after I bought my house here I was single. (I'm engaged now :) Living as a single female in most outer suburbs would be very lonely - but I have always had lovely neighbours around.

Quite a few people that live in my street and who I've met in the suburb - bought their houses to retire here! Riverview is the best kept secret in Brisbane.

Redbank Shopping Centre which is just down the road is also very friendly and has specialty shops that you wouldn't nessesarily expect in an outer suburb like Chinese Massage and Acupuncture and a Day Spa!
