"Don't do it!"

The locals are great, but the cost of living is way beyond a joke. We are being evicted so the realestate can raise the rent on our home in Lewis St from $410 to $700. We are not the only ones this is happening to. Think very carefully before moving here. The locals are all leaving due to the exhorbatant rents. The houses are overpriced to buy due to the high rental returns, and once the gas pulls out, the bottom will drop out of the market and this will become a ghost town. Sad. Because it shouldn't be that way. I am not a small town person, but I will be sad to leave the people here.
Pros
  • Friendly
  • Easy to get a job especially for teens or second income
  • Has more amenities than surrounding towns
Cons
  • House prices especially rental
  • But jobs don't pay enough
  • Prices are high, and the town keeps flooding

"Great Community, Not So Good Everything Else"

I have lived in Roma for about three years and while i love the community and how willing to help everybody is, there are a lot of cons to living here. The rental prices are through the roof and some of the houses are nearly inhabitable! yet you could still pay more than you would for a NICE house on the coast! There is not really anywhere particularly good to eat, just standard hotels and even the one 'nice' restaurant is a complete rip off for the quality you get. There are two clubs, but even if it were worth a night out, there is no babysitting service in town!! Almost NO shopping, and things are expensive compared to the city as there is no competition. Worst of all are the floods! If you are going to live here be sure you have insurance, as half the town has been under 3 times in less than as many years. However, when something like this happens, the community really does pull together and people go out of their way to help you, friend or stranger. Now, enough negatives, I am from the city and the slowwwww pace of life is here is not for me, I find it rather boring, but if you enjoy it and don't mind travelling for a bit of livliness, then Roma really does have something about it, the 'Roma Coma' will suck you in and i think it has something to do with the people! Wages are good, although rental prices are relative. National Parks nearby are amazing, if you want to live here be sure you drive! Also if you walk through the streets at night you tend to get followed by dogs...and Mosquitos!!

"A Town of opportunity"

For anyone wanting to have a go and get ahead in life, Roma is the town of opportunity, with no unemployment and good jobs going begging there are opportunities galore. This place just goes from strenght to strenght, and anyone keen to put in the effort always prospers, in Roma.
Roma has everything that you need to live a comfortable life, and is a great place to raise a family. It is only 1hr by plane to Brisbane and there are 16 flights per week. So if you want to live in a town were you can choose what job you want, make good money,( because the wages are better to attract the workers,) and live in a vibarant county town, that still has that country atmosphere, look no further than Roma.

"A great place to raise a family"

My husband and I moved here 21 years ago expecting to stay 3 years. We love it! Very relaxed lifestyle, only one set of traffic lights, everything is within 5 minutes drive. Rental prices are going through the roof unfortunately with the booming oil and gas industry, but house prices are still low enough for young couples to buy their first home. Very low unemployment. If you want to work in Roma, you'll find a job. Great schools, heated town pool, walking tracks, every kind of sport you can imagine (with the possible exception of ice sports!). Only an hour flight to Brisbane (28 flights a week), close to the Carnarvon Gorge. Very hot in summer (up to 43 degrees), very cold in winter during the nights (down to minus 4), but beautiful winter days. Lots of clubs, groups and churches to join. Plenty of pubs and eating places. Friendly people, community minded.

"Roma -Inland town ideal for families"

Roma is an inland town some 480 kms west of Brisbane. Known as the “Cradle of the Oil and Gas Industry, there is a museum heralding this. Roma has plenty of sporting venues and playing fields as well as art galleries and museums. There are a number of shopping centers with supermarkets, department stores and specialty shops. Nearby enjoy the outdoors at Mount Moffatt National Park and Carnavon Gorge National Park. Where there are walking trails where you can see native flora and fauna. There are good housing bargains to be found in Roma and prices are still very affordable and a great entry into the property market.

"Too expensive to rent for what you actually get. Prices are on par if not more expensive than the GC."

Roma is almost 6 hours away from any ocean, therefore should not be so expensive to rent or buy. Not all of us work in the oil and gas industries, yet prices are soaring. To rent a decent house for our family we are forced to break our budget. We live in Roma because we like the country town, but don't like the city prices.
