"Sought After St Lucia"

St Lucia is one of the most prestigious suburbs in Brisbane due to it's close proximity to the Brisbane CBD, it's peninsular-like (no-through traffic) position, vast expanse of prime riverfront land and the world renowned University of Queensland and associated facilities. St Lucia is one of the oldest and most well established suburbs in Brisbane.

Popular with university students, retirees, young professionals and families. St Lucia weathers the real estate cycles better than most and is always popular with investors due to the strong rental demand.

Brisbane City Council showers St Lucia with regular bus and citycat services. The closest rail station is at nearby Toowong.

"The best of everything"

St Lucia has good access to the best schools, Ironside state school, St Peters, Brisbane boys college. Having the the Uni campus on your door step is like having a country club on your door step, Olympic pool, tennis courts, and many sports ovals, restaurants, cinemas, libraries and book shops, a first class St Lucia golf course and restaurant, Indooroopilly Golf Club. St Lucia is well serviced by public transport, including City Cat, regular buses, green bridge, Toowong rail station near by. There are many walking and bike tracks around the golf courses and UQ. The Village in Hawken Drive is full of different eateries as well as one of the best IGA supermarkets. The huge, soon to be extended Indooroopilly shopping town is near by with everything from department stores to cinemas. St Lucia is less than 5km from the CBD and 1.5km from the Wesley Hospital. St Lucia has it all so close to the city.

"Best of Brisbane"

I've owned and lived in properties in Sherwood, Chapel Hill, Brookfield, Toowong and St Lucia and without a doubt St Lucia beats the rest by far. There is plenty of public transport - buses, city cats and trains. It is close to Toowong Village and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. There are small local shopping centres at St Lucia Village and at Gailey Road fiveways. You would be within walking distance of one of them whereever you lived in St Lucia. There are lots of cheap restaurants down the university end of St Lucia. Trendy eating areas like Rosalie, Paddington etc are within 10mins. There are excellent private and state schools in the area or in the next suburb. The area is a pleasant mix of older Queenslander style homes, contempory houses and townhouses and high rise units. Yes there are university students in the area - 'cause there's a university. I guess if you lived in one of 6 pack type unit blocks there could be issues but that could happen anywhere. It would be unwise to buy in the flood prone areas of St Lucia but they are cheap now and you do get a river view. I suggest sticking to the ridges along Hawken Dve and Carmody Road.

"St Lucia - a Two-Level Suburb"

St. Lucia is quite unique, it's almost as if it's two suburbs in one.

To the southern (higher) side, there's Ironside State School, some churches, parks, small shopping areas and lots of ~$1 million houses. On the northern (lower/flooded) side, there are some shops, and a lot of the area is made up of apartments and small houses rented by University students, along with a few more expensive riverfront properties.

Unless you live on Sir Fred Schonell Drive, even St Lucia's 'main' roads are not that busy at all. While the shops are 'non-existent', the frequently running 402/411/412/427/428/432 service the suburb very well, meaning you can be at major shopping centres within 5 minutes. These buses also connect you with rail services. City is within 10-15 minutes drive as well.

It's very much a 'luck of the draw' with neighbours, you may find very friendly neighbours or the dreaded Uni students into hard rock music. Parking is a pain, with restrictions everywhere - although these disappear getting further from the University.

"A "Walk To Everything" Location"

St Lucia is a nice leafy suburb with a good mix of high end properties with river, Golf Course and/or City views and low to mid range houses and units in the middle. The university keeps rents above average for the investors and also keeps vacancy rates low. St Lucia is home to some of Brisbane’s best cafes and restaurants including the very popular 100 acre bar at the St Lucia Golf Links. There are lots of parks and public transport options including City Cat terminals and bus stops. The university of Queensland grounds have some fantastic walking paths, parkland, a manmade lake and top notch facilities. Once you’re hooked on the St Lucia lifestyle you’ll never want to leave!

"i like it here"

overall i like st lucia the only thing i would watch out for is that the water and power infastructure are getting a bit unrelable, in the last year we have had one major water cut off, a couple of problems with merky water from it being turned on and off while we were out and a bus hit a power-pole which cut our power out for half a day.

"Great area close to city and uni!"

St. Lucia is by far one Brisbanes best suburbs with close proximity to transport, shops, uni and the city! Rentals in St. Lucia and surrounding suburbs Toowong and Taringa etc enjoy good strong rental returns.

St. Lucia is definately in my top 10 Brisbane suburbs to invest.

If your looking to downsize and are sick of working maybe you want to go back to university? St. Lucia homes available at good prices start looking today!

"The Academic Life"

Life in St Lucia is surprisingly quiet and reflective when you consider the amount of activity and buzz surrounding the suburb. The colleges at U.Q mean that the suburb is always teeming with young people and the energy that goes hand in hand with the youth. I was once one of those youth and thoroughly loved living there. The house blocks seem quite generous, the older brick style houses sit on pretty, winding roads and cafes and restaurants all compete for the patronage of bludging students. The transport from the uni itself is also top notch, with ferries and buses available most of the day and night. The village itself offers grocery stores and some great entertainment venues.

"St Lucia is a small suburb with high and low density house to cater for the nearby university."

Real estate is very sought after in St Lucia for many reasons. It is an exclusive area with some quite large blocks and some very extensive homes and many of them on the river frontage. St Lucia is in a rather unique geographical situation in that the Brisbane River wraps around 3/4 of the suburb, almost leaving it like an island.

University of Queensland campuses are nearby and this is a drawcard for the area and is why there is also some high density housing in the area.

The fact that it is only 15 mins drive from Brisbane city is another plus for those living in this area.

As the suburb is quite small and exclusive many of the facilities are in neighbouring Indooroopilly.
