"Safe, quite and close to everything"

I've lived in Tanah Merah more than once as a child and as an adult and always loved it. Plenty of little cafe's/restaurants and corner stores close by. Tanah Merah is filled with a lot great parks, childcare centers and close to many private and public schools. The Hyperdome shopping center is also very close which is filled with everything you need and free parking (all one story though, so be ready to either walk from one end to the other or drive to the entrance you need). Such different surroundings in a small area, there are homes along the HWY but with high walls to protect from noise, although if you're not ok with that, plenty of homes away from it all in quite back streets on acreage or hills with beautiful views surrounded by trees, or even just a normal sized lot close to the shopping center, whatever you prefer. Being right in the middle with easy access to either Brisbane and the Gold coast.

Renting is about $300-$500. Buying can be anywhere from $200,000 to $1,000,000 with old and new townhouses, homes, and acreage. Pretty quite and filled with a lot of families, young and old. I don't hear parties from where I am and aren't even disturbed by people walking past and we're right near a bus stop and main road. The neighbours aren't the borrowing sugar type (unless you are and then they'll be one back), but usually more keeping to themselves. There might be one rev head that drives past quickly (if you're near a main road), but otherwise you'll feel safe walking around with the kids, going to the parks or shops with a wide range of people living here and overall a lovely place.

"Like always being on holiday"

I'm on small acreage of the most beautiful place money could buy but instead very affordable.

With amazing Birdlife and wild life in my backyard and the convenience of the hyperdome that has just about every shop known to man in it less than 5 minutes drive or a 15 minute walk. It is really a have- it -all sort of place.

People here are incredibly friendly and helpful but not in your face at all.

Every day feels like I'm on holiday, really special place.

"Blue-collar suburb with no infrastructure"

The people in this suburb are entirely blue-collar workers. If you go to the supermarket after work, you will never see a male dressed in office clothing coming from a job in the city as they simply do not exist. Only the females will be dressed in office clothing as they come back from their administrative positions.

There is no infrastructure at all out here. That includes buses (the busway stops at springwood), restaurants, decent shopping centers, and so on. The hyperdome is an extremely poor shopping center. There are very few shops compared to places like Chermside and the food court is straight out of the 80s. The most popular restaurant is McDonalds.

You will hear a lot of swearing in normal conversation. When you walk the streets, you will hear a combination of dogs barking and people yelling things like 'you f***** c***'. That is the sound of the suburb.

The entire area is completely dead. I wonder if a nuclear attack has occured because I am not even sure if anybody lives here. You will never see anybody out on the street going for a walk. Any forms of exercises are generally discouraged in this area as most people are sitting at home watching Neighbours if they are a girl, or the footy if they are a guy. The only form of exercise that is accepted is walking your dog. This is because it is not seen as exercise but rather a method of tiring out your maltreated and bored dog to stop it from barking all night. If you are seen walking without a dog, you will be looked at like an alien and people may catch on that you are not like them.

It is 9pm on Saturday night and as I look out my window, it appears there are no lights on anywhere in the street and no signs of life at all. It feels like that book 'Tomorrow when the war began', only that sounded kind of adventurous.

Don't even try getting into the city as the highway is a complete mess most times of the day and night. Expect to drive for over an hour during peak hour, and even when you are driving somewhere on the weekend, you will often be hit by traffic. I am surprised that more people around here aren't outraged as they sit in their cars for hours each day, wasting their lives away. I am guessing time isn't too important to some people.

Having said that, there are quite a lot of really hot babes that live in this suburb, but they are generally still living with their parents as once they are able to move out, they do.

There are no apartments in the area, so the only way you would want to live is by purchasing a large house and spending your weekends mowing your lawn and repairing the roof.

faitha You sound like a really nice guy... No wonder you don't see anyone around, although maybe it's because they all run away the moment they see you leave the house? Or it's probably from the lack of a social life, since you said you're looking out your window writing this review on a Saturday night. Your review was ridiculous...
1. A lot of sexist comments.
2. You clearly think you deserve the world and you're better than everyone else.
3. If you're 'so great' and hate it so much then leave to so somewhere more suited for you.
Everything you said is wrong (except for it being quite at night, which I'm highly confused WHY you would complain about that?). There's people walking all the time, every single day.. how is exercise possibly discouraged? There's bus stops everywhere. Traffic is always on the Highway at peek hour no matter where you live, so I don't understand why that's related to Tanah Merah at all. There's new restaurants all through the Hyperdome (maybe you just didn't walk past Mcdonalds) plus all the big stores, nothing 80's about it. Yes there's some people with very little fashion sense in the center, but also people dressed professionally too, just like every shopping center, and even the city. Walking through the streets I have never heard swearing at all. I hardly even hear my neighbours.
So overall you're complaining about normal people?... Hard workers and families that want to live in the suburbs on a quite street? Just because you want to live in an apartment on a noisy, busy road in the city, doesn't mean the suburb is wrong, it means you're wrong for it.

"Green and leafy, but traffic noise is getting unbearable"

This was a green belt, quiet with lots of wildlife, but the freeway has meant loads of noise. Very unsafe, see the amount of security in every home, screens stop the breeze and alarms on every front wall. No longer the haven it was. Lack of drainage can cause issues in heavy downpours.

"One of the Best"

Tanah Merah is situated about 20-25 min from the Brisbane CBD, and about 25-30 minutes from the heart of the Gold Coast. Houses are generally well presented and clean. Very close to all amenities such as the Hyperdome, which has all facilities including dining, movie theaters, night life activities and family outings. Four good quality golf courses in close proximity. Basically a little gem of a place, that has a outer city feel, but close enough to go pretty much anywhere in a decent time frame. Very family orientated, and safe for all.

"Love it!!!!"

We've lived in Tanah Merah for 7 seven years and we love it. It's so close to everything, the Hyperdome is just across the Pacific Motorway, and has a great variety of shops, restuarants and a movie theatres. The kids catch a short bus ride to Shailer Park State school and Shailer Park High, so the public transport is great especially from the Hyperdome. We are 30min from the City and the Gold Coast. We have never had any drama were we live and find everyone friendly and quiet. Great neighbours. Like I said "We Love It".
