"Tenterfield is home to me!"

I was born and bred here in Tenterfield and it was a terrific place to grow up in. Yes there may be better opportunities elsewhere but it all depends on what you want to get out of life. I’m only young and have achieved so much, having purchased my first house and owning a car and having a solid working career. It is a great starting point and gives a young person many opportunities to enter into the real world.
There are still a lot of young youths here today who have chosen their career paths and got an apprenticeship and finished their schooling which I think is great, and once finished if they chose to move on good on them. Tenterfield is great for kids to grow up in but I guess there’s not too much here for the older kids.
Tenterfield does have people here who have made different choices in life but every town does! If you want to get married young, or have babies or do whatever it’s their own business as long as they are happy who cares.
Tenterfield is a friendly and warm spi

"Great Area To Live"

Tenterfield is more than the Town Area, the Tenterfield shire covers a large area of NSW, diverse in people and scenery, love the town, especially in spring and autumn with its greenery and then autumn colours, the country areas are a diverse mixture of hills, rivers and streams, cannot understand previous comments, nowhere is perfect, newcomers are always made feel welcome, but like everywhere you have to fit in, life won't change for you

"Why the cover ups?"

I cant help but get a little paranoid that someone is trying to cover up how terrible this town really is. My last review of Tenterfield was very honest, I even corrected prior negative remarks on the 'teenage pregnancy epidemic'. So Im going to say this another way and this time Im not going to be as nice...In Tenterfield you have The Haves and The Have nots...Racism is rife and please tell me what type of people think its ok to refer to some parts of the town as 'vegemite village'?? The police here do a wonderful job,but the amount of break ins is very high and the teens can get rowdy and intimidating. Before considering buying a property here I would strongly irge you to rent first to see if this town is what you are after..We didnt and we ended up losing quite a lot of money because of it. Other reviews have also been removed and in now way were they offensive,
Pros
  • good retirment place
  • getting out
Cons
  • nodecent education
  • glassing

somethingmore11 I commented on your other review but apparently it has been blocked?!
What i basically said in my comment was there are heaps of young teens dont believe me go see for urself go into crazy clarks and you will find two on the checkouts or even go to the royal you will find one who recently had a baby etc i could go on.
Didnt see the glassing how about reading it on the news http://www.farnorthcoaster.com.au/news/9849/woman-charged-over-alleged-glassing-incident-at-tenterfield/
Didnt see any rock throwing wait untill spring hits and it warms up and near the post office on the corner where they sit on a friday saturday night then maybe u will be lucky enough to experience it urself.
I do agree with you about the cobblers owner being open minded and non judgemental

Emaxo
Emaxo I have lived here in Tenterfield for most of my life, i moved away for a few years and then came back when i had my son and then proceeded to buy my first home. Tenterfield does have its issues but honestly what place on earth doesnt, Tenterfield had a great community pride, and certain groups try their best to work with the community to 'better' the quality of life for youth and teens, i myself have had issues with some 'less decent people' and had my house/car broken into. To judge this town because some 'locals' decide to do the wrong thing is just ridiculous. That so called 'glassing' i can assure you was nothing of the sort. Blown out by the media and drama queens who like to over dramatize everything just so they can get some attention. Tenterfield will always be my home and i will always hold it close to my heart. High School Education here is beyond a joke as the teachers have all but lost their love for the job, but i grew up around amazing people, not scared to walk home at night, never became a drug addict/dealer, and have found love and respect for this community.

"Tenterfield - the jewel of the the New England area"

Tenterfield is a beautiful , leafy country town full of history- lovely old buildings and beautiful trees. Tenterfield has 4 seasons each year- it is considered a temperate climate- wonderful for exotic plants, deciduous trees, roses, lavenders, perennial plants etc. Shopping is quite good considering the town population is about 3500- we have a new Bi Lo supermarket and a new Target Country- there are a number of very nice "specialty" shops in addition to the usual- Soul Pattinson Chemist, Hardware stores, Curtain/ haberdashery, Sport stores, shoe shop, coffee shops, pizza places etc We have 3 G.P. Surgery's, and the Hospital has an updated Emergency Dept etc. We have an Aged care Hostel and the nursing home has just had a big extension- taking it to 50 beds. The nursing home is only about 5 years old. We have a glorious golf course ( very popular with visitors) and good Bowling green/club. There are a myriad of Clubs for adults and also for the children. Tenterfield is a great place for kids.We have Pre school, Child care 2 Primary schools ( the Catholic school has just had a $3million update and extension-) and High School. We also have a Cinema - a huge plus for a town of this size. There has been a steady influx of people moving here from Brisbane and the north coast region- looking for the tree change- a better climate and some wonderful peace and quiet- as a result there has been a lot of renovating of lovely old homes and the planting of new gardens -- to further enhance the town's lovely character. Tenterfield is only 2.5 hours from Brisbane - 2 hours from Toowoomba and 1 hour from Warwick for extra shopping - also only 1.5 hours drive from the North Coast- what more could you want!!!!!!
