"A Good Place"

I have lived in the surrounding areas when I was younger and still to this day it is a good safe area, I have an Investment property here for 6 years and have found my neighbours and tenants to be great, this area has lots of schools, shops and parks yes it seems to have a bad label on it but these are from narrow minded people who do not really have a positive outlook on life, the housing is cheap and all the mod cons are close at hand and I must say all other areas in sydney have the same crime issues, a lot of people here work and care for their families like everybody else .
Pros
  • cheap to buy and good rental demand
Cons
  • needs more parklands

"Not a nice suburb to hang around for too long"

Tregear is about forty to fifty minutes' drive west from Sydney via the M4 motorway. There are many houses around this area but they are a mix of private owned and public housing. I used to work around here and never had a good impression of this place. This was because, I often encounter police cars parked outside the houses and the cops used to raid the houses around here.

There is a small shopping complex with a supermarket, fruit market, shops and cafe. Apart from this, there is nothing much to do. The next major centre is located in Mount Duitt, which is about a ten minutes' drive away. I would not recommend living around this area if you can avoid it.
garymc
garymc Ruby did you ever think that the reason the Police are outside someones house would be because they are cleaning the area up. Police outside peoples houses happens all over Sydney and I dare say more in other suburbs than Tregear.
You say you used to work here ? What you probably meant was you have passed through here before, the shopping centre is actually a very popular and safe place to shop, there is also a new shopping complex just 2 minutes away at Ropes Crossing with a Coles supermarket.
You can catch public transport easily to anywhere you want to go, we have approx 30 schools in the area to choose from, we have ample open spaces for kids to play or to take the dog for some exercise, we have movie cinemas, sports fields everywhere, countless clubs and pubs with entertainment, I could go on and on. Where elsein suburban Sydney will you find this.
You say you recommend avoiding this area, wewould like you to avoid it as well we dont want narrow minded people here. We accept anyone that wants to be part of our community and we as neighbours help and support these people.

"And the good points are:"

Yes, Tregear has some problems, so did Petersham, Stanmore, Glebe, etc, everywhere I've lived before. What we do have in Tregear is mostly quiet. Only occasionally are there problems here. The reserve is huge and while it is a bit shabby there's lots of odd hidden areas that are interesting to find. There's a lot of great people here who will look out for each other. And maybe the best thing is the tolerance. You can be any shade or sort here, there's less problems and more acceptance than there is in the fancy pants suburbs. You give people a fair go here and you'll be treated well. So, come to Tregear if you aren't judgemental about poor people or those who have had rough lives, and you will find it a comfortable suburb full of good and interesting sorts.

Treesnleaves
Treesnleaves I think your review is wonderful.
I once had a home for sale in Tregear ( I was working a long way out of the area at the time) it was the 1st time id ever heard of the suburb or visited and ......well....... Let’s just say I never wanted to go back there
(I didn’t sell the house either!)
But what you have reviewed here are not the streets ,the houses, the shops, as everyone else seems to talk about in any review of any suburb on here
What you have done is reviewed the people, and what you have taught me is that if you look deeper there is good in every corner of the world even if it appears a bit rough on 1st inspection.
I don’t doubt that there are wonderful beautiful people in Tregear in fact if they all have half your humanity and Humility then my 1st impressions of the suburb where dead wrong! And after all isn’t it the people that make the suburb? I sincerely commend you on this review it is now one of my favourites.

syd89
syd89 you review is great because what matters is the people you are surrounded by not the shops and parks after all you are gonna be living in a home where you have neigbours and its great when you know that your neighbours are good people. i recently bought a house in tregear because its getting really expensive here in lakemba and as a young family we cannot afford to buy a home here, so its going to be my first time ever living in tregear and im happy to say before i bought the house i met my neighbours and they are the nicest people i have ever seen very welcoming and i truly felt safe and thats when i knew this is the right place to bring up a family.

once again great review.
