47 years ago I was born in Cessnock Hospital, the youngest of four children in what was a typical coal-mining family. Small house, not much money, local public school, riding your bike was a hoot. When Mum won a coloured television in a raffle, we thought we were the bees knees. No Playstation, X Box or ipod. Somehow, we survived, entertained ourselves with backyard games and generally had a great time.
I attended Cessnock High through my teenage years, prioritised sport over education (as my HSC marks will attest to). In Year 12, I was School Captain, made some horrible speeches and fumbled my way through the odd date when I worked up the courage to invite a girl out. Had my first beer, made some lifelong friends and mostly stayed out of trouble. After school, I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do. A cricket team-mate offered me a job in his family bus company and I was on my way in my working career. It was a great job, great boss and great people to work with. I met my fantastic wife Kim, bought our first home and thought about family.
Fifteen years later, I changed jobs and moved into Real Estate. Started a family. Starting with the lively Miranda who is now 12 going on 17, a gymnast, singer, dancer and scholar. Luke who is now 10, a footballer with a footballer's haircut, a technology expert and FIFA 15 champion. He's not as keen on school but name me a 10 year old boy who is. We built a new family home in Nulkaba and the kids attend nearby St Philips Christian College Campus.
The Real Estate career started in 2001, just before the market took off with a bang. Prices increased in some areas by over 200%. Over a 10 year period, I sold a variety of properties ranging from blocks of land, to residential homes, farmlets, bush blocks, vineyards and olive groves. The market is ever-changing and it's an exciting challenge to keep up with it. After a period out of Real Estate, it's now 2014, and I've now joined the Ray White Team in Cessnock.
Real Estate hasn't changed that much since 2001. Sure, because of the internet people are much more educated and aware of what's happening but ultimately, if you care about people and help them out, they'll be happy.
