"Peaceful, leafy suburb only moments from the hype!"

Wollstonecraft, the suburb that has seen exponential growth in the demand from local and out of the area buyers/tenants for a number of years. I personally have been involved in the Wollstonecraft property market over the last 4 and a half years, working at one of the leading local real estate agencies, being LJ Hooker Crows Nest. Working in rentals and now in sales. I have seen prices soar from the day I first started. I can see why people want to live here!

The peaceful vibe the suburb brings, the variety of housing options from stunning $4 million + homes to neatly tucked away 1 bedroom/studio apartments, location (only 4 stops to the City) and the leafy, friendly nature parks with great walking tracks around including Berry Island Reserve and Brennan Park.

This suburb is perfectly positioned just outside of all the action! St Leonards, Crows Nest and North Sydney are all within short walking distance from Wollstonecraft, offering the Cosmopolitan lifestyle with shops, cafes, restaurants, night clubs and much more! Not to forget the fantastic, brand new Woolworths on the corner of Falcon and Alexander St - just a nice stroll up Shirley Road and you are there!

There is a wide mix of demographic which makes the place all that more attractive. There is a range of premium homes and also affordable units. A mixture of young professional couples/singles, young families, retiree's and downsizers from the Upper North Shore.

My favourite region of the suburb would have to be on the Harbourfront Peninsula - streets like Milray Ave, Cable St and Tryon Ave.

For keen buyers and tenants alike, you cannot go past the lovely surrounds of Shirley Road, Rocklands Road, Hazelbank Road & Belmont Ave (a little more affordable).

All in all, a beautiful place to live and I could not recommend it enough! I am also a resident of the area living down in Milray Avenue and have always loved the suburb.
Pros
  • Tree lined streets
  • Excellent childcare/ public schools nearby
  • Excellent transport links- train to city quick!
  • Green leafy North Shore- Great parks and walks
Cons
  • One small grocery shop near the train station, but a short walk to Crows Nest
  • Housing is expensive
  • Limited cafes in Wollstonecraft (but Waverton and Crows Nest are close)

"A leafy peninsular suburb so close to the city"

I have lived in Wollstonecraft for 3 years. I LOVE it. It is quiet but so close to the city. I have a toddler, and it is a great suburb to live in for a young professional family. The parks and walks are amazing (Berry Island playground and train station playground have both recently been upgraded) and there is a fantastic child care centre on Shirley Road. It is in the catchment for the North Sydney Demonstration School which is well regarded as a high quality public school. It is also in the catchment of the new Cammeraygal High School. The train is super convenient into the city for work and to Chatswood for weekend shopping, Housing is, however, expensive. But it's probably worth is because its so close to the city, yet so quiet and green.
Pros
  • Excellent transport links- train to city quick!
  • Green leafy North Shore- Great parks and walks
  • Excellent childcare/ public schools nearby
Cons
  • Limited cafes in Wollstonecraft (but Waverton and Crows Nest are close)
  • Housing is expensive

CarolineB We are moving here in August, many of the things you list in your review are the very reason we chose to live here too. I have a toddler and hope to get him into that childcare on Shirley Rd as it would be so convenient - so close to the train! We won't know anyone (we are from Canberra), so hope to meet new families with little ones at the park!

CarolineB Hi SimonT, we have been here for 5 months now and love the location. Train into city is very fast, the suburb is quiet and leafy. Both Lane Cove and Chatswood are great for groceries. Where you guys moving from?

SimonT Thanks for the speedy response, we are looking to start the lease on a property 5 minutes from the station. We have been looking for things do do apart from the parks for our daughter, are there any places close that you could recommend? We looked at Berry Island which is lovely but not really walking distance from the house. Thanks, in advance.

BeckP
BeckP Hi Simon. A few suggestions for things to do with a Toddler near Wollstonecraft other than parks:
1. Playgroup at the Crows Nest TAFE. Arguably the best playgroup in Sydney.
2. Greenwich Library (small but fantastic books and friendly staff) or Lane Cove Library which is really big and close to the shops. Lane Cove does Possum Play which is a preschooler story time.
3. Lane Cove and North Sydney Pools are both fantastic in their own ways. I recommend Carlile Swim School at Lane Cove.
4. Go and see Jessica at the Wollstonecraft Cafe. She's lovely and makes a great babychino
5. Jump on the train and head into the museums or art gallery. The MCA does a toddler "Artplay", Kidspace at the Australian museum is great.
6. Take your toddler on a bushwalk through Smoothey Park or the Berry Island loop. My 3 year old has been "bushwalking" for about a year and loves it.
7. Go to the Coal Loader Sustainability Centre in Waverton. Chickens, community garden, cafe, Naval ships- it's a fantastic outing for toddlers.

I adore raising my son in Wollstonecraft- there are so many fantastic places to visit with such easy access! :-)

"It is the place to be"

I have been living in this suburb for 2 years, I really fall in love with it. I moved from Sydney eastern suburb to this lower north shore area, I wasn't really sure if it is the right choice at first, but now I have no regret with it. Most of the area has water view or city skyline, with easy stroll to crows nest cafes and restaurants. Sitting along train line ensures on-time transit in rush hours. There are reserves and parks around this area, making bushwalking an indulgence every weekend. If you miss civilization, then nearby St leonards offer hospitals, offices and gyms. It is a great area to enjoy natural environment while connect to city life.

"Probably one of the best suburbs in Sydney"

Beautiful place. Next to Crows Nest but far enough to be quiet and nice. Many properties have waterviews and there's huge reserve right next to the harbour. Mater hospital is just up the road there's a train station and buses are frequent. Plenty of space to park. Doesn't feels like your so close to North Syd. Very expensive though.

"One of the Best"

Crows Nest is a vibrant safe and exciting suburb just north of Sydney Harbour. It is adjacent to North Sydney just across the Harbour Bridge close to busy commerical centres and at the top end of the fabulous Lower North Shore, next to Neutral Bay on Sydney Harbour. It is the Cross roads to the Upper North Shore, Sydney City and the Lower North Shore. Extremely easy access via public transport both rail and road will get you to the harbour in less than twenty minutes. Adjacent to Crows Nest in St. Leoanrds is one of Sydneys best public teaching hopsitals, the Royal North Shore Hospital as well as many private medical clinics. It is also home to the College of Law and North Sydney Technical College and very close to a number of private secondary schools. The cafes and restaurants in Crows Nest are renown for bringing in locals and visitors and there is a vibrant outside cafe atmosphere. All facilities are available in Crows Nest shopping is within walking distance of many of the beautiful authentic Sydney semis and quaint federation style homes. Crows Nest has been gentrified long before most other places and is a fantastic place to base oneself for a good stay in Sydney or a great place to live if you work in the CBD or anywhere along the Upper and Lower North Shores.

"Busy neighbourhood with limited parking"

Crows Nest is located about a twenty minutes' drive north from Sydney. There are buses that service this area and the closest train station is located in St. Leonards. It is about a thirty minutes' bus ride to get into the city if there is not much traffic.

Crows Nest is a good mix of commercial, high-rise residential apartments and houses. There are plenty of professional services business, boutiques, supermarket, restaurants, pubs, cafes and animal hospital in Crows Nest. Unfortunately, it is often very difficult to find parking in Crows Nest and this is especially so on the weekends. Due to it's convenient location, it is a very popular area for young, professional working individuals and hence rental prices are on the higher scale as there is high demand for housing around this area.

"Shops, Restaurants and Bars"

Crows Nest has always been a busy place, especially at the intersection of Shirley Road, Falcon Street and the Pacific Highway. These roads take people, cars, trucks and buses to Lane Cove and Gladesville, Mosman and Manly, Epping and the City respectively. There is a variety of cuisines available in the restaurants, and the outdoor eating areas along Willoughby Road are always busy. Homes in the area are mostly small brick cottages and terraces, on small blocks of land. Many do not have off street parking. Access to the city is by bus. The Mater Private Hospital is in Crows Nest.
